Florence - music in March

Hello - My husband and I have a sudden opportunity to visit Italy early in March, and will be spending 4 days in Florence. I've been taking notes on all the food recommendations and museums here and can't wait to go! But I am wondering if anyone can give me recommendations on where to hear some good music. We are far from teenagers (just celebrated ur 25th anniversary!) so I'm not looking for any high-decibel discotheque, just info on any concert halls or restaurants with live music.
Thanks!

Hello Marita,

These two websites were recommended to me from an earlier similar query:

http://www.charta.it/
http://selectitaly.com/index.php

They'll give you an idea of what's on when you will be in Florence and what the venues are. Independent Google searches should bring you directly to these venues' websites.

Marita - You can find a listing of classical concerts on the Promart website:

http://www.promart.it/p_Calendario.asp?function=search

It's in Italian - but easy enough to use.

Under 'Ricerca per' enter Firenze.
On the same line, enter your dates.

Then click OK and you'll get a concert caledar for that week.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Every time I am in Florence I go to the concerts at Santa Maria de' Ricci on via Il Corso. It is a small baroque church that offers chamber music, organ concerts and other small venue music. Once I heard the most beautiful violin soloist and another time a voice soloist for instance. It is an intimate atmosphere and just a lovely little church. It is inexpensive and the proceeds go into the renovation and upkeep of the church. There is a coffee bar nearby where the musicians hang out and down the street is a gelato shop that is open late.

We got tickets to Tosca in Florence in May through www.liaisonsabroad.com. They also had tickets to other events so it might be worth checking them out.

Look for classical concerts at the English church at via Maggio 18 (I think).
