Florence Museums without lines

...or reservations. Being unsure of whether we needed to reserve with our Friends of the Uffizi membership, i e-mailed the museum and asked them. The answer: no reservations, no lines for ANY of the state museums in Florence, we just show up and walk in. cost: 25E if you are under 26, 60E for an individual and 100E for a family of up to 4. I'll report back on how well it worked next month.

Do you need to pay entrance fee in addition to your membership?

thanks, kybourbon. i saw the other threads, but they did not answer my questions, so i checked with the museum, as i mentioned, and then wanted to post what seemed to me to be a worthwhile way to see the museums without hassle, so i posted under a new heading. Should i have done it differently?

How many state museums are there? Is this practical for the average visitor?

For the record, I went at Christmas 2 years ago and made a reservation. We could have walked right in. I would advise anyone going in the off season not to bother.

drm1418 - did you end up getting the membership? And if so, did it work out well?

My family will be in Florence for a week in July/07 and would love to be able to visit museums as the mood strikes us instead of being tied to timeslots. And the family price seems quite reasonable, especially when I add up the cost of visiting several museums over the course of a week.

thanks, a

Do you still need reservations for special tours? Did you go in a seperate entry? Thanks for this post.

yes- we got the membership and it worked out very well - there were huge queues for several of the museums and we simply walked up to the entrance for people with reservations and passed the line there(albeit, a much shorter line), went directly to the security points, flashed our passes and went in. i'm not sure what Jane means by "special tours"; we did hire a private guide for the uffizi(he had his own pass) and didn't require reservations for that, either.
