I know of the romaturismo.it website and it has a great itinerary for seeing Rome in 48 hrs. I will be in Florence for 48 hrs and was wondering if anyone knows of a similar website that has a good itinerary and walking route.

Hmm. I don't know of a similar website, but I imagine it would be hard to give a 48 hr itinerary without explicitly saying which 2 days you're traveling. Museum/church times, etc. vary from day to day. You also want to avoid waiting all day in line at the Ufizi or the Accademia, but they really can't be missed!

I saw all the main sights I wanted to hit last year in 2 days, but I planned it all out on my own. (And then I went biking throughout Tuscany...sigh, highly recommended). Good luck and have fun!

Here's a 3-day itineray from the Desinations section. There are also links to 3 different walking tours along the left side of the page. See what parts of it grab you most and pare it down for your two days.

We did Florence in two days also. Planned ahead and mapped it out on our own. We went to see David very late in the day and had almost no line. You don't need to spend a lot of time inside as the collection is small.

Went to the duomo and climbed the bell tower as soon as it opened. It was not crowded then, and it was cooler (you will be very warm after climbing 400+ stairs.) Great view. Get reservations for the Ufizi so you don't need to stand in line. Be sure to do some walking on the other side of the river. There were two good churches over there - can't recall the names. And save some time to savor the experience by sitting at a cafe outside.

When you do visit, be sure to give us all a good trip report! I will be going with a full 72 hours to spend there myself!!

I do recommend hitting Piazza Michelangelo at sunset, if you can (everything else is closing then anyways). It's a gorgeous view, and there's a very cute pizzeria up there.

Be sure to stop at what IMHO is THE best 'gelateria' (ice cream parlor) in all of Italia. Gelateria Caribe (Via Ricasoli 66r) is not far from the Galleria dell'Accademia, Via Ricasoli 58-60 where you will find Michelangelo's 'David'. Just take a left when you exit the museum and it's just further up on the left. It is owned and run by Antonio and Loredana, a young couple orginally from Sicilia.
