Florence Hotel Bombed in 1993
In 1993, my husband and I stayed at the beautiful Hotel Pensione Quisisana e Pontevecchio on the Lungarno Archibusieri in Florence. Three days after we left, the Uffizi Gallery was bombed by terrorists and this hotel was also severely damaged. Each year we have returned to Florence and checked on the restoration of the hotel. We have "heard" that it has re-opened, but have been unable to find telephone/fax number or e-mail address. (Some of the scenes from "A Room With a View" were shot from this hotel and it is a treasure!) Could someone please help me with this information? We'll be in Florence in May and want to stay there again. Thanks!!!

Go to www.guestinitaly.com/florence.htm and scroll down until you find it.

There is a booking form, so it's probably open. Please tell us more about this hotel. Price range?

Hi Betsy - I had seen the listing you referred to, but want to contact the hotel directly. GuestinItaly quotes the rate as L240,000/night. This hotel was in the movie "A Room With a View", and we stayed in the room from which some of the scenes were filmed - had a gorgeous terrace overlooking the Arno. Last May we were told by the owner of the leather shop next door that beautiful frescoes were uncovered after the bombing, and the restoration includes a rooftop terrace. Now, I've probably ruined my chances of a reservation in May - it should fill up fast! It really is a treasure....
