Florence--City Center Hotel

Looking for information on Hotel in Florence for 4 days in November. Need to know which city center area is best for stay. Looking for inexpensive room with bath/shower where I can walk at night to nearby restaurants, etc. Do not need anything fancy. Is staying on or near the Arno worth it? Thanks for any help.

I always recommend the hotel Casci which is right around the corner from the Duomo and up the street from David. The rooms are huge and the price is reasonable. We found the staff to be first rate, the b-fast room has 16th century frescos on the ceiling. I have recommended this hotel several time and all who have stayed there have loved it. I would definatly stay there again. <BR>Do a search on Hotel Casci on this forum it is mentioned a lot. Also it is in Frommer's and Fodor's guides. Have a great trip.

Hugh - <BR> <BR>Although the search function here has its problems, suggest you begin w/a search on this forum for "Florence hotel". You might then take a look at a guidebook, and/or the hotel listings here on Fodor's, on Frommer's and Time Out on-line. This will give you an idea of the different areas and price ranges. At that point, you can re-post here with a more specific question (identify your idea of inexpensive), ask about specific hotels which interest you, etc. and likely receive more responses, which are also more useful to you. FYI - Florence is very walkable, and you will find great restaurants everywhere.

Hello Hugh: I searched for a place through the web and found the Pensione Pendini which also happened to be in Fodor's. Simple, reasonably priced and comfortable and a 3 minute walk to the Duomo, etc.

Thanks. I will look into the Hotels. Lesli, thanks for the info but I have done this search. I use this forum for every trip, business and pleasure, and I find if people are willing to give me a Hotel name, it is good enough since they took the time to suggest. I read all the books and look at websites and do all the research, but nothing beats a great suggestion from a perfect stranger. Thanks

We stayed at the Hotel Aldini in June and liked it. It is 1/2 block from the Duomo facing Via Calzaiuoli. We found it in Cheap Sleeps and thought it was a good value. Our room was large and $110 for a double plus 10% off for cash. They have a website--www.pronet.it/hotelaldini.

Go and see www.domani-usa.com/florence/silla.html. The Hotel Silla is a really good location five minutes walking to the downtown. Just off the river Arno where is very nice walking on night. Around there are a lots of nice typical trattorie. And in November there must have a very convenient prices. Ciao.
