Sandeep,

The only way I can think of to make your trip affordable is to book your entire itinerary via Paris (I assume you don't live there) on Air France or another SkyTeam member (Delta, Korean Air) except Alitalia of course. Say: NY-Paris-Rome and Venice-Paris-NY for example.

Still, it might not be that cheap if you want to stop over in Paris (I'm assuming you do). Perhaps Air France or Alitalia have special intra-europe fares for long-haul travelers flying intercontinentally on SkyTeam carriers.

Hope this helps,
Andre

Last year I flew NYC-Rome, Venice-NYC on Air France and booked through AOL Travel http://webcenter.travel.aol.com/travel/air/air2.jsp
(Choose the "Multi-leg Trip" option) Cost about $325 in May 2001.
Today I booked a flight for Jan 2003 NYC-Paris, London-NYC (also Air France) on orbitz.com (Choose the "Milti-city" option) Cost was $368.
I also tried using airfrance.com but I found that their multi-destination option was not very user-friendly.
I hope this info helps somewhat.
