None of the trains are special, to my knowledge. Not everyone gets off in Myrdal to take the Flam train (special only in the sense that it covers a relatively small distance in an old-fashioned train), and the train from Oslo is the train that goes to Bergen. The buses are special in that there are buses for those who purchased the NIN package and buses for those who simply want to get from the ferry in Gudvangen to the train stop in Voss. The NIN bus makes a little detour to the Stalheim hotel for the views and the thrill of the road.

To reiterate what Michael has already said, there is nothing special about NIN tickets. NIN simply supplies you with the tickets. There is no NIN train or bus. When I took my trip last June, I bought my train tickets and ferry tickets online and in advance. Bus tickets can be bought on the bus. If you book your train tickets in advance it is actually cheaper than NIN. It does take a bit of research to get ferry and bus schedules but getting the tickets on your own can give you more flexibility.
