Fixed-Price menus in Spain
My husband and I are planning a trip to Spain and I've been reading in the AAA Tour Book that by law all restaurants have to offer a price-fixed menu. Is anyone familiar with this? Do all of the restaurants participate? We'll be in Madrid and Barcelona so any information regarding meals in these two areas will be appreciated. <BR>

We did a S,P,M tour in F/M. We spent xtra days in M and then in Barcelona. Our guide on the tour suggested an interesting restaurant in the Placa Reial, of the Rambla in B.-- Les quinze nits. It had a reasonable prix fixe lunch M-F, including wine, which we enjoyed. The Placa Reial is also interesting but is not a place to go at night. It would be on your left, about 1/2 way down going toward the water.

hmh- By F/M I am assuming you mean February/March. We will be in Spain in mid-February and are curious about the weather. I am expecting temps to be in the 40's to 50's. Any other details about your trip (where to stay, eat, what to see, etc) will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

We were on a Winter Break tour--the weather was in mid 60s, when we arrived in Spain, but very cold, when we got back to Madrid in late Feb--in the 40s. Barcelona was much warmer. Where you eat would depend on where you stay. We were at the Agumar and found a good Italian restaurant nor far from it, up the street away from the town area, about three blacks, in a little side alley. Ate there twice--they had fixed price meals. I think that eating is the "luck of the draw" Others on the trip ate in other places that they tought were great. If you are going to Barcelona, we stayed two nights in the Aparthotel Calabria, in the Exiample area. It was nice, good breakfast room and food, and not far from Placa Espana and we walked to the Rambala from it. We ate in neighborhood restaurants there also, so it would be hard to remember where. But we never went hungry. The Calibria had a kitchen, and one evening, we went to a nearby supermaket, bought wine, cheese, bread, ham, fruit, etc. and "ate in".

I've been to both towns and eaten fixed price menues. As I remember all the restaurants have them.A starter, a main and a dessert. One bottle of wine was included for the 3 of us.Fix priced menu was allways cheaper, usually not bad,but NEVER really great.
