First Trip to London
I am taking my first trip ever, to London. I am hoping to go on a side trip somewhere else, probably Bath. I need lots of info, such as recommended inexpensive well located accomodation, tours and sights not to be missed, where to eat that won't ruin me.

In addition to hotels, you can also do a search on London sights, London theatre, and London restaurants and find a lot of information, even suggested itineraries.
Actually just type in London and you'll get lots of information. Then narrow down your preferences, and post again.
Rebecca,
To begin with, pick up copies of Gustafson's books "Cheap Sleeps in London" and "Cheap Eats in London". They should be available in your library or larger bookstores. They are reliable guides to budget minded travelers to London. I have a wealth of information of things to do, places to go, inexpensive tours to take. Feel free to Email me directly. Tell me of your particular interests and I'll be glad to see if I can be of help.

London is one of my favorite cities and one of my favorite things to do is to take the walking tours of London with London Walks. The company, which has brochures just about everywhere you look, offers at least 8 tours a day ranging from "highlights" walks that inlcude the Tower of London, St. Pauls, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Parliament and Trafalgar Square, to walks in quiet neighborhoods such as Kenisington and Hamstead, to tours to Hampton Court (the best palace to visit in my opinion) to pub walks, to my personal favorite, the Jack the Ripper walk with Donald Rombalow. The walks are only a couple of pounds each and usually do not last longer than a couple of hours and are fantastic. Other must sees include the British Muesuem (particularly the Egyptian sections and the Lindow Man), Harrods (don't miss the food court!), The Musuem of London, the Tate Gallery, a show on the West End, Covent Gardens and The Victoria and Albert Museum. Probably my favorite part of London, however, is just to pick a neighborhood and start exploring it--you can meet some wonderful people and see some amazaing things! Have a great trip!

While in London, you may also want to take a boat cruise on the Thames, maybe up to Greenwich & visit the Cutty Sark, the Queens House, Maritime Museum, &/or the Museum at the top of the hill where the O meridian is located. Sounds like you may not quite be convinced yet that you will do a daytrip to Bath. In case you are still undecided, here are a number of daytrips I have done from London - Portsmouth, Windsor, Bath, Salisbury/Stonhenge, Cardiff/Caerphilly, Dover, Warwick, Nottingham, Stratford upon Avon, Canterbury, even overnight & back from Edinburgh. I liked them all, but my favorites are Portsmouth, Cardiff, Edinburgh, & Bath. So many places, so little time. 1 of my favorite places to eat, for British food, is the Sherlock Holmes - the restaurant is upstairs, above the pub. It is located on Northumberland, a couple blocks from the Embankment tube stop. Good English food at a reasonable price, even my young son likes the food there. I will be stopping there when in London this June. Try the treacle sponge cake dessert. & if you get the chance at a pub, try a steak & kidney pie.
It depends on what you like. Castles? Stately Homes/Palaces? Gardens? Seashore?

I lived in Oxford and have travelled through England and Wales extensively. Check out my best suggestions on my website. (Go to the England section). I have a list of all the best places.

http://www.telusplanet.net/public/al...ravelpage.html

It's not your "ordinary" travel site. Hope you enjoy it.

Sue
Someone mentioned LondonWalks and I would second their greatness. I also believe that they do guides to other towns such as Bath. Another place to check out is www.miningco.com. Do a search on UK or London and there is a wealth of info. You can find more on LondonWalks there too.

If you can travel relatively lightly, definately consider the Tube for getting into the city from the airport. Its only 30-45 minutes away and MUCH cheaper than taking a cab.
