Hi DB, we are going to stay in August at either Ardawn B&B or Victoria Hotel on Eyre Square. Have not been to Ireland(and can not wait) but I saw these places on the net, and they looked nice and affordable too. Try google.com and put both names in and you will get lots of info... Victoria Hotel is a part of the Byrne group of hotel in Ireland FYI, Judy

DB,

i would suggest that you reconsider driving from Dublin to Galway after a trans Altantic flight - the distance in Ireland are deceptive - you should allow twice the amount of time to travel half the distance due to the lack of a highway network (although the Galway road is quite good in comparsion to other routes) but the traffic is particualrly bad on that route with numerosu bottlenecks enroute.

That said if you still want to get to Galway for the first night my personal favourite is the Great Southern Hotel on Eyre Sq in the centre of the city or its sister hotel the Corrib Great Southern Hotel - check out their web site at www.gsh.ie. If you are looking for something different then try the hidden ireland places at www.hidden-ireland.com or if you are just looking then www.ireland.travel.ie.

Finally do search on this site - Judy i think I read something on the site about the Victoria - the name rings a bell but I haven't personally stayed there or have any knowledge about it,

Have a great time,

Cathy

I second the poster who cautioned against driving to Galway from Dublin. It took us ALL day to get from Galway to Dublin.. and even without jet lag we were knackered (tired) upon arrival. If it were me, I would stay one night near the airport and take off early the next day. But if you do decide to do it... have a great trip.
