First Trip to Barcelona

We plan to travel to Barcelona this spring. Should we avoid Easter Week? What hotels provide comfort, space and a good internet connection? Anything absolutely not to miss? What to avoid?

No need to avoid Barcelona during Easter Week although DO make hotel reservations as soon as possible. Barcelona is not one of Spain's more popular Easter-Week destinations, most of which are in the south and along the warmer coastlines, but the entire country is definitely "on the move".

Many many hotels provide comfort and some offer internet connections too.

What's not to miss? Take a look at the Fodor's Barcelona Guidebook. Also read details about Barcelona @ http://www.fodors.com/miniguides/mgr...n=barcelona@23 as there are too many must-sees in BCN to list here - the biggest Must-Sees would be The Gothic Quarter and the Sagrada Family, though.

What to avoid? The beaches for swimming. The water's too cold!!

Enjoy the jewel of the Mediterranean!

Salut, BarcelonaMan

Just got back last night! For internet services, you can find plenty of "locutorios": little shops offering phone calls, fax, photocopying and internet terminals (not cafés as you get in other cities). I found one offering an hour's internet use for 1 Euro. That's likely to be much cheaper than any hotel would charge for a connection.

You might look at one of the Apsis hotels www.apsishotels.com

We stayed at the Atrium Placae the last time we visited and the internet connections were free in the business center

In late October I stayed at Hotel 1898, 109 La Rambla, walking distance to many sites and the Aerobus. I felt very safe in the neighborhood, and the hotel is very comfortable, spacious and has a free internet connection and free business center. Week end rates were pricey so I only booked week days. H10 Hotels also have internet connection and may offer a lower price.

Personally, I'd love to be anywhere in Spain during Easter week, though Sevilla or Zamora would be my preference on account of the fabulous Santa Semana processions.

I really do like Barcelona, though my sister's purse was stolen by a very clever thief while we were dining at an outdoor restaurant.

Not to miss are the Gaudi sights--the Sagrada Familia, Parc Güell, the block of discord, and Casa Milá. The Palau de Musica was gorgeous. We also loved seeing the Sardana, the Catalan national dance performed at the cathedral and the Placa de San Jaume. Strolling from the Cathedral to the Placa de San Jaume, stopping to listen to the street musicians is a great way to spend an evening.
