My husband and I need some hotel help for our upcoming trip to Paris this fall. Has anyone stayed in a nice place that they could recommend? Also, is our budgeted amount sufficient to get something nice and clean?

The Relais Saint Sulpice has nice rooms in that price range (950FF) but the bedcovers are looking a little worn and the service is not great. Otherwise, it has a modern bathroom, tasteful decor and a good location. I would avoid the "Paris Trip" city tour which came highly recommended by the front desk- it was a rip-off. You can go to www.france.com which lists quite a long list of opinions on a number of hotels. <BR>If clean is more important than attractive, the Hotel Le Clement is about 30% cheaper. Pay for the larger rooms (~620-680FF) and you will get very clean, functional rooms (which are only very slightly smaller than the Relais St Sulpice rooms), airconditioning and an even better location (1 min walk from the metro stop and the Blvd St Germain). The bathrooms are very small though but adequate.

Marla, <BR>your budget is more than sufficient. <BR>If you do a search on Paris hotels on this forum (oops, I mean travel lounge) you will find many many recommendations, mostly on the left bank, which most people prefer. <BR>I most often stay on the right bank in the 1st arrondissement, and I like the hotel Louvre Montana and the St. Romain, both on rue St Roch. <BR>You can also find lots of hotel ideas, including comments from past guests, at <BR>www.paris.org and <BR>www.hotelboulevard, among many other websites. <BR>If you want more information, feel free to email me.

In your price range is the Hotel Verneuil. http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75007verneuil2.htm <BR>It is just a block from Hotel Bersoly's which we love. [HB is $120. a night] It was featured in T&L a while back. I dropped in the pick iup a brochure and the front desk was very pleasant. It is a bit more upscale than Bersoly's and the pictures look *lovely*. The deluxe doubles are about $157. euros. The location is fabulous.. near the Seine. YOu can walk easily to the Louvre, St Germain shopping and musee d'Orsay. Notre Dame and Ste. Chapelle are very walkable -- and the neighborhood is full of charming restaurants. Marla-- Take a look at Hotel le Lavoisier in the 8th. It opened just last year, and has very nice rooms and staff. The location is great unless you have your heart set on the Left Bank-- near Madeleine, the Opera, and much shopping. A superior double is 1190 FF. <BR> <BR>This is a sister hotel to Hotel le Tourville and Hotel le Saint Gregoire, both highly recommended from lots of sources. We stayed in all three two weeks ago, and liked Lavoisier the best. <BR> <BR>Have a great trip!

Marla, <BR>We stayed in the Hotel de la Brettonerie in the Marais district last fall. It was very lovely, clean, and in a wonderful part of the city. Have a wonderful trip.

We spent two weeks at the Hilton and loved it. We had a very large room with a gorgeous full-on view of the Eifel Tower! It was nice too getting USA Today slid under our door every morning!

May I suggest renting an apt. The finest website I found was "www.regencyintapts.com". They are based in BC, Canada. Their properties are grouped by sleeping quarters (studio, 1 bdrm, etc.) Take a look; you may save a chunk since all accomodations have kitchens, cleaning service, and optional pick-up. I will be using them for the first time in a month, and am excited about the opportunity to "live" like a Parisian! <BR>

I just got back from France and stayed at the Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais in the Marais area, and the hotel was wonderful. It was around 820FF per night for two -- breakfast not included and not worth the extra money as the neighborhood teems with delicious pastry shops and cafes. The interior is immaculate with Provencal fabrics and beautiful furnishings. There is even a tiny encased garden in the building's miniature courtyard (viewed through windows only). Our room was streetside and had windows that opened for a lively view of the active area. Plus, the planted fantastic-smelling flowers in window boxes. <BR> <BR>We loved the Marais area so much that we had to force ourselves to leave the neighborhood. There are dozens of delicious, affordable restaurants and innumerable shops of all types (from cheese to perfume to wedding dresses ... you name it). The hotel is 4 blocks from the river and about 6-7 minutes to Notre Dame, St. Chappelle, etc. And, the RER drops off front the airport (CDG) nearby and there are two close Metro stops. Very convenient. I wouldn't hestitate to recommend the hotel (obviously!). <BR> <BR>Feel free to email me if you want any further info & have a wonderful trip!

We've just returned from Paris and stayed at the Hotel le Lavoisier. <BR> <BR>Great hotel and staff. Rooms are good sized, although the all marble baths are a little tight. Everything is high end in terms of furnishings and comfort, but the hotel is not stuffy. By day two, we were on a first name basis with much of the staff, who go out of there way to make your stay everything you're looking for. <BR> <BR>Location is between the 8th and 9th, near St Augustine Church, one block from the metro, and five minutes walk from the Opera. Not too many places to eat within a couple of blocks, but as I said, walk over to Opera, and there's plenty. <BR> <BR>We loved it. <BR> <BR>Major shopping within four or five blocks. <BR>
