Alone in the Lakes?
I'm planning to visit a friend in Milan in early October for 3-4 days. Since I have more time (another 5 days) to spend in Italy, and would like to stay in the Lombardy region, would you suggest a single female travel alone in the Lake district? I'm interested in either Bellagio or Stresa but, after browsing the info on this forum, it seems to be for couples. I'm very independant and do not feel uncomfortable traveling alone but I do not want to feel completely out of place.
Thank you

Linda - For a single female in Italy the lake district is a very good option. You should not feel out of place there. I have never been to Stresa but I have been to Bellagio and it should do nicley for you. Varenna is also a possibility. There is a very good hotel there named the Albergo Olivedo which is owned and managed by a single women - Laura - who speaks excellent English and would be a good resource for you. Good luck.
Linda, yeah, those are romantic places but having just come from Garda and Como lakes, I can tell you easily that you'd be fine by yourself, and also perfectly safe. I posted some info on here last week that maybe will help you. ("Home from Lago.....") By all means, GO, ad have a lovely time.

Thank you all for the vote of confidence. I was not worried about my safety (Born & raised in NYC....was never "pinched" in Tuscany now THAT worried me!) but what did concern me was being alone in "honeymoon" land. You know...couples kissing, smooching & feeling sorry for me thinking I got dumped (on my honeymoon no less! haha) Back to travel subject..Which is more suitable for a single gal-Bellagio or Stresa?
I'm interested in relaxing but I do like to sightsee and shop.
Thanks again!
