First time visit to Paris

We have airline reservations for April 15-22 to Paris. We have never been there. This trip is a surprise for my 73 year old husband. I need help!! Where should be stay? Want to be close to "things" and close to metro. Probably a 3-star--would like just a little room.

Thanks.

Joyce--
Not to sound urgent or anything, but you'd better get busy with your reservations. If you want a nice little hotel just across from the Musee' d'Orsay and an easy walk to the Louvre, with a reasonable price, try the Libertel Bellechasse, part of the Libertel chain which you can find on the internet at www.libertel.com or www.mercure.com. Or just look up Paris hotels on this Fodors web site; you'll see lots of recommendations.

I'm sure you'll get many good suggestions, but my favorite is the Hotel Deux-Iles, on Ile St. Louis. It is about 3 blocks from the nearest metro, but has the distinction of being in the center of Paris but on a quite, charming island. The rooms are small, but quite nice.

Here's their website:
http://www.hotel-ile-saintlouis.com/ailes.htm
We stayed in the 8th district, near Rue Cler. Very quiet and not as busy as it is in other parts. Just do a search on this website for "hotels in Paris" & you will see many suggestions.

But Wayne is correct...you better get busy on booking your stay. April is right around the corner.

Hotel de Lutece is great on Ille St Louis
Hotel du Danube on rue Jacob-Left bank
Hotel d'Angleterre on rue Jacob, the more expensive of these three. All close to metro,"things" the staff will take good care of you.Not to worry about getting a small room, finding a big room is harder
Start working on this immediately,Paris is booking up for the spring!
