First Time to Germany Needs Help
I will be traveling to Germany in September 2000 with my family. I will use a rental car. Am planning to visit Munich for 2 days and would like to stay in a town 10-25 miles from Munich. Am looking for a town southwest of Munich with clean and cheap gastehous/gasthof.

Any help and assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Drop me an Email, Raquel, and I'll be delighted to send you some prospective itineraries and recommendations for accommodations. I'd suggest you do so promptly however; I'll be hospitalized at the end of the week and unable to access a computer. Contact me today and I'll be back to you promptly.

Hi, Raquel.

Diessen is a nice, small town southwest of Munich on the west side of Ammersee Lake (maybe 25-30 minutes by car?) with several reasonably-priced options. It's very easy to get around the few blocks that comprise this town on foot. There are several restaurants, a beach, walking and biking trails in the area, and a boat dock where you can catch a ferry to other spots on the lake. If you have time for an outing, you can take the boat across the lake to Herrsching, from where you can head up to Andechs Monastery (one of my favorite spots in southern Germany.)

The town's website is at...
www.diessen.net

Here's a page of Gasthöfe and Hotels...
http://www.diessen.net/gastronomie/index.htm

(Click on the name of the establishment in the right column for more info.)

I stayed at the modest but gemütlich Gasthof Unterbräu - clean and cheap.

Hope this helps.
Russ
