Haylee, do include Covent Garden on your list of to-do's in London. It's so much fun to watch the buskers, and you can always chat with fellow tourists.

I especially like St. James Park. Take your photo on the bridge, feed the birds and the squirrels, rent a deck chair and take it easy.

I just saw a play at the Globe on my last visit to the U.K., and I had forgotten how fun the atmosphere can be. Half the fun, for me, is watching the "groundlings" on the floor--they pay for cheap tickets to stand for the show, but get quite close to the actors.

There's plenty of great musicals to choose from in the West End, as well as fine straight plays.

One of my favorite spots in London is the South Bank, from the London Eye to Southwark Cathedral. You can watch the tourists, watch the "statue" performers, have something to eat, and browse the bookstalls. Plus, watch the action on the river!

Although this topic is covered in other threads, if you're going to be in London for several days, you and your mother might consider renting a holiday flat.

Do some more research, and let us know what your options are.

Hi Haylee,

as you are rather younger than most posters here, you might like to look at the "time out" web-site for london, www.timeout.com/london, which may have a few appealing ideas.

as for Cornwall, there are a lot more things you would enjoy besides the Eden Project - castles, theatres, and beaches to name but three. there are cheap flights to Newquay [would you like to surf?] from stanstead, and/or trains to Penzance, including sleepers.

but remember, in 2 weeks you cant'see it all, any more than we Brits could see all of Canada in the same time. Pick a max of 3 places to stop and you can't go far wrong.

regards, ann

Hi Haylee,

I took my seventeen year old daughter to London and Paris last August and one of the highlights for my daughter was a tour of Buckingham Palace and it's gardens. The Tower of London also tied for first place on our list. We took the train out to the Cotswolds and stayed in Stow-on-the-Wold for three days and did some walking in the countryside and horseback riding (in Stanton). Then of course there is the British Museum! My daughter loved London ....there was so much to do and see.

As far as hotels go, we stayed at the Luna Simone near Victoria station....it was small, but spotlessly clean and a friendly place to stay.

Keep us updated!

Haylee--I was in Stratford last month. It was very torn up with construction stuff around the river, where you first access it from the town, and also the theater is being renovated. I had been there YEARS (and years!) ago and didn't particularly want to go because I knew it wasn't the town it used to be. But was still kind of disgusted. However, if you know in advance that some of this is going on (and may be done by the time you go) you'll be forewarned and it is still an interesting town.
Several people mentioned Regents Park to you. There is a canal boat trip from Regents Park to Camden Town. Not long (55 minutes) and not expensive. (I planned to do that and didn't get around to it) And others here have recommended Camden Town as a place with great shops for people your age. Also lots of places to eat (so I hear). They say the boat trip goes right through the London zoo.
I second the idea of Covent Garden. I stayed very near there and there's always something happening. Lots of street entertainers, pubs, shops, restaurants.
