Greg
Any good guidebook can give you suggestions on what to see in Florence, and most of them are unique because Florence has art and architecture unlike anywhere else that I've seen.
As suggested, do a search here on Florence or Florence restaurant and you will find many suggestions.
Vivoli for gelato is certainly a memorable experience.
I have a file; if you'd like to see it, email me

Two for starters:

1. Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens. The palace is sumptious and filled with art treasures. The Gardens are worth a little walk, but we most enjoyed having a lemonade and sandwich at the Kaffeehaus located in the gardens. It has a view of the city and at noon all the church bells began ringing. Lovely.

If you look at a map of the palace and gardens, facing the palace, the Kaffeehaus is on the left on a hill.

2. Santa Croce Church. Burial site of Michelangelo, Gelileo. In the first part of July they have horse races in the square in front of the Church.
