february in italy?
There seems to be lots of great "when to visit" information, however, not many comments on february in italy generally, and more specifically rome. Pros / cons, esp. weather, for family visit this time of year appreciated.

I just went to Rome this past February and I was so glad I did. I left the day after a major snowstorm hit the northeast. The weather over there was in the 50's and 60's and sunny everyday. There were several times when we were able to dine al fresco, without having to wear coats. There were tourists, but not the high volume you would get during warmer months and I've been there in July so I've experienced it.

mkf99, we must have been in Italy at the same time--the snowstorm closed down JFK with 17 inches of the white stuff the day after we left! Weren't we lucky with all the beautiful sunshine in Italy (Venice, Florence, Lucca)!
jfrn- we were in Rome in February 2002, and had similar weather, but warmer. Actually, it was too warm for us (southerners) to wear our heavy coats.
Both years there were, of course, many fewer tourists than our other trips to Italy, all in the fall.
