Favourite French hotels with balcony or terrace

My husband is a smoker (no complaints please - there's nothing I can do about it). It means we always need a room with outdoor space where he can smoke if we are to have a harmonious holiday. So what are your favourite hotels in France that offer rooms with a balcony or terrace? Any region is fine - I will keep the list for future reference.

Two of my favourites are the Villa Florentine in Lyon and La reserve de Beaulieu on the cote d'azur.

Neither are cheap, but the views from both (old town Lyon and the Mediterranean Sea) will mean your husband may end up smoking more than usual!

And as they say, when in Rome...

A few of my favorites:

The Sube in St. Tropez and the Hotel West-End in Nice.

The Hotel de l'Horloge in Avignon.

The Lutetia(sp?) in the 7th district...near the Bon Marche department store has them if I remember correctly. An aquaintance of mine stayed there and I'm almost sure he mentioned having a balcony, but he had a Jr. Suite. Happy Travels!

We had a nice little terrace at Hotel Monge in Paris. It wasn't large enough for a table or chairs, but it was plenty large for us to stand out on.

In Paris, Parc St. Severin, room 71, which is like a penthouse. It has a wrap around terrace with panoramic views that he could host another 50 or 60 smokers if he wanted to.

My favorite is Hotel Mahogany in Cassis, outside of Marsailles. We had a fantastic corner room with a large balcony over looking the beach and across the bay. We were able to have breakfast brought up to us each morning and sit outside. It is one of my favorite memories from all my trips to France. Wine, bread and cheese in the late afternoon over looking the water wasn't bad either. The room was very nice also.

The Hostellerie du Vieux Moulin in the Burgundian hamlet of Bouilland has enclosed patios off the rooms in the newer wing.

Les Hospitaliers at Le Poët-Laval has ground-floor rooms that open onto terraces by the swimming pool and elsewhere.

The ground floor junior suite at Les Magnaneraie in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon opens onto a small patio/garden.

Sea-view rooms at the Hôtel La Pérouse in Nice have balconies or large terraces. La Mirage in Bormes-les-Mimosas has upper-floor rooms with terraces; view over to the Mediterranean.

Thanks for all those suggstions. Anyone else? For my part, we had a great room at Maison Pic in Valance a few years ago, with a loggia overlooking the courtyard. Even the fire alarm going off in the early hours one night didn't put me off (and no, it wasn't my husband's smoking that set it off!). Food was terrific there too.

Forgot this one: ground-floor rooms at the Domaine de Valmuriane, near St-Rémy, have small private patios. So do some of the the rooms at La Forestière in St-Germain-en-Laye.

The Hotel de la Bourdonnais, in the 7th, has a little balcony just big enough for one, maybe two people to stand. Best feature is the view of the Eiffel Tower from room 503's balcony.

Thanks guys. Plenty of suggestions for Paris, also the south of France (for obvious reasons I guess - the good weather). Not so many for other regions. Any more?

Of course--Le Hameau, opposite St-Paul-de-Vence. Most of the rooms have some sort of patio or private terrace, and it's a very nice place to stay.

the pretty small town of Valbonne, the Bastide de Valbonne has rooms with patios facing the swimming pool.

You're right about most of the hotels being in the south--weather in other parts of France makes for less outdoor living.

The seaside Hotel de Carentec, in the low-key Brittany town of the same name. Rooms have terraces with spectacular views of the Bay of Morlaix, and the hotel has a Michelin two-star restaurant.
