favorite windsor dining experience?

for whatever reason. food/ambience... food no ambience? view?-

we will have a long layover in heathrow and are looking to go to convenient windsor for a few hours and have a nice meal with travelling companions.

late october, so weather will be iffy.

I have been to windsor before, and we ended up at a very nice pub one august day, but was wondering about any other successful dining suggestions.?

thanks in advance.

Manage an invitation to dine with the family at Windsor Castle?

Seriously, I'd pass on going to Windsor for what you say, and instead go to Petersham just outside of Richmond -- a wonderful dining room overlooking the Thames.

I haven't been in a few years, but the Union Inn (Crimp Hill Road) in Old Windsor used to have fabulous food (the best carrots I have ever eaten in my life). It is about 12 miles from Heathrow. The Union Inn has a website, but I don't know the URL. My family lives in Old Windsor.

the petersham looks great. is there a bus at heathrow like for windsor with reliable frequency? i found getting to windsor and back a breeze, convenient, inexpensive last time we escaped from airport boredom.

thanks for the link.

Richmond is quite close to Heathrow -- 8 or 9 miles? I guess I was thinking of taking a taxi to and from the airport to the Petersham, and not even dealing with bus schedules. Anyone have an idea of cost of taxi? I'm sure emailing the Petersham, they could tell you the best way to get there or cost of a taxi.

By the way there is also a nice walking path along the river. We got so distracted taking it, we missed the Petersham altogether!

Hi
How about Al Fassia in St Leonards Road, Windsor - amazing Moroccan food in great surroundings. However.........it is no longer a well kept secret and you need to book in advance.
