Favorite squares and small parks in London
I'll be in London in March for two weeks. I've been multiple times. I'll be taking a lot of day trips and visiting museums but I though I'd like to visit ( and photograph) some interesting squares and small parks and was wondering if there may be some I've missed over the years, and what people feel are their favorites.

It's not small and it's not really a park...and probably too obvious, but I loved the Horse Guards. I was there on a rainy day and joined a small tour but peeled off to take some really pretty photos.

Also not small, in fact quite huge, but I loved Hampstead Heath.
I took this walking tour -

But again, beautiful photos.
And later I was glad to know where Harry the squatter had lived -

Sorry. Neither suggestion are small, pocket type gardens. I did enjoy the small side gardens at Kensington - and later made me happy to know where the forget-me-nots in Meghan's bouquet (and Archie's first photo - foot) came from.

I think that St James's Park is the most beautiful park in London and it isn't that big, certainly not as big as Hyde Park or Regent's Park.
My favourite small park would be Joseph Grimaldi Park near King's Cross St Pancras. It is a memorial to the famous clown Joseph Grimaldi.

Check out St Dunstan in the East. It’s close to
the Tower of London and has some gorgeous ruins. Local area workers sit and have lunch in this lovely setting

The Square at Temple Church, Fleet Street.
Culpeper Gardens, Islington
Barnsbury Woods, nr Islington
The Potters Fields south of Tower Bridge
The inner square at The Barbican is brutal but peaceful.
There are all my secrets, please delete when you’ve read.
thanks RM that was out of my scope, I was always a South of the river boy, apart from six months of living it up in Islington.

Everyone loves the Barbican.
Btw, there’s an event held every year called Open Squares in which private gardens in the capital are open to the public for one weekend only. There’s a fabulous mix of roof gardens, Regency squares, allotments and courtyards.
i think tix are about 12 quid and that gets you into as many gardens as you can humanly get round in 48hrs.

mmmmm.
I spent my second year at Uni sat in their car park night after night, employed just to watch the cars. Some were so expensive that I was given a piece of card to ensure the owners didn’t park too closely to one another. Loved one silver AM DB5 never saw the owner move it in 3 months, I always imagined that they were away on HM service.

Oh yes! Mount Street Gardens! (And Mount Street itself!) We stayed around the corner and it was such a pretty secret little spot.
I forgot Grosvenor Square in Mayfair. It was probably our favorite because it is truly a neighborhood park used by locals in the center of London. There were kids playing, afternoon small concerts, and Pimms cocktails for sale at a little booth set up. There are some beautiful old hotels and mansions that line the Square and the former US Embassy is there. John Adams lived at 9 Grosvenor Square from 1785 to 1788 when he was the ambassador to the United Kingdom. There are several statues, fountains and a September 11 Memorial Garden.

Also, something not many know about, unless you're in the legal field, are the Inner and Middle Temple Gardens off of Fleet Street, a place I discovered when delivering briefs to the barristers!

There are very few squares that are left intact after the bombings, so I have to say that my favourite square is Fitzroy Square in Fitzrovia - it is a beautiful intact Georgian Square on all sides. And Guy Ritchie has just opened a nice pub outside the square called Lore of the Land.
I also love St James’ Park...especially the walk across the lake which has great views over to Horseguards with the London Eye begins it and in the opposite direction a very green view of the facade of Buckingham Palace.

Not really a park or a square, but the Regent Canal from Camden to Regent's Park is very nice, and green. Always something to see on the Canal. The stretch from Angel to Shoreditch is also good.
Oh, and Lincoln's Inn Field.
