Favorite Orvieto Restaurant for lunch?
We are looking for a place to eat lunch in Orvieto and are thinking of eating at Ancora. It is really the only reasonably priced place we could find.
Have any other suggestions?

I just realized you were the same poster. If you are looking to save some $ Orvieto has beautiful places to picnic. On the main drag through the center of town you will find a few "grocery stores" and should have no problem putting together a great picnic. The views are unbelievable!

Is the Etruscan Underground tour you are talking about the same as the "Pozzo della Cava" information we got? We were planning on buying the "biglietto unico" ticket which would get us into that as well. The Fodors guide I have say their tours start at 11am and 4pm from the tourist office.
Let me know if this is the same...also thanks for the suggestion of the restaurant...we'll check it out.

Yes, I had lunch there in April. It was a great meal. I'm not sure what your definition of "reasonably priced" is but it was more expensive than I usually spend for lunch or even dinner. It was the last day of vacation and we were having a cheap dinner at the villa we were staying so we decided to splurge. It is the kind of place that you get clean utensils for every course. We started with bread which was the best I had there - one of them translated as "cereal bread". It had a distinct flavor but we couldn't figure it out. I asked the waiter but he didn't speak much English and said it was cereal. Anyhoo - it was good! The meal was - faglio soup (delicious) and my TC had a plate of 3 different pates. This was served with a glass of sweet wine. Then I had spaghetti with rabbit meat sauce -unbelievably good, the best bolognese-type sauce I've ever eaten. My TC had ravioli with truffle oil and truffles and stuffed with something that I don't recall (maybe more truffles?). She said it was wonderful. Then we each got a dessert. And of course, a bottle of Orvieto wine. The bill came to about $125. About twice what we had been for dinner on the trip, but you only live once and it was a wonderful experience. I would definitely save my money to go back there on another visit. There are lots of restaurants on the piazza of the duomo and down the main street towards the center of town.

Sorry my second reply posted twice. Our underground tour was called Orvieto Underground. We got our tickets from the TI on the Duomo square. If I recall they do tours at 11 AM, 12 PM and 4 PM only one of them is English speaking. We lucked out because we needed to go at 11 AM because of our lunch reservations and it was just us and a family of four. They spoke a little English but had two small kids with them (I would NOT recommend taking kids), so whenever they had to stop to calm their kids the guide repeated everything in English to us.
We got our info on this initially through Rick Steve's guide. We didn't buy any combo tickets. We just bought our funnicular (sp?) tickets and tour tickets.
BTW, are you must day-tripping or are you stay there? The reason I ask is that you should know there is NO luggage storeage at the train station.

I Sette Consoli will cost you 40 Euro each for their 5 course lunch which does not include wine. It's not for the "conventional" palette as the menu included squid, rabbit, venison, and pigeon. While I don't have a problem eating those things, the Misses did have a problem.
Unfortunately, their "rule" was that if you ordered the 5 course lunch, everyone at your table had to have it, so my wife couldn't just order off the menu if I ordered the 5 course meal. Bummer!!
We ended up at a nice little trattoria down the street from Locanda Rosati that cost us a total of 20 Euro which included a litre of wine.

Goodmorning, two favorites in Orvieto are the Ristorante Etrusca, via Maintani, 10 and the Ristorante Maurizio, via Duomo,78, both are very near the duomo and are very good..

Budman, not sure when you ate at I Sette but we just ate there in April and did not do the 40 euro per person menu. I had potato soup and chicken breast stuffed with wild mushrooms in a marsala sauce. We finished with a wonderful gorganzola topped with honey and nuts. There were plenty of non-gamey items. I just don't want anyone to get the wrong idea about this restaurant and miss out. We really enjoyed it.
FYI, their menu is posted outside so look before you decide.

Oh, I'm sure the ala carte menu is very good, but everyone was ranting & raving about the 40 Euro menu, and I was looking forward to having that, but you couldn't do both and sit at the same table.

I believe most places offering a tasting menu require all at the table to have it. I know this is the case at Babbo in NYC.
I've eaten at ISC three times and never noticed the tasting menu option on the menu. Duh.
