Definitely! A week is simply not enough time - but my friend just has one week off for the trip. My brother went for a long ship based trip this summer. I've been wanting to go for so long and hoped to go this October, but scrapped that plan two years ago. Thrilled to be able to go this October if only for just one week!

I'm sure I will. Naples was the only place we really didn't like on a 16 day trip.

I'm thinking of this as a Taste of Greece intro trip and hope to return again in a few years. A nice long trip after retirement.

Hi Starrs,
If on Patmos, maybe consider lunch down at Lambi beach. The setting is quintessential 'singular cafe isolated on remote Greek Isle' but for added value, there are the famous stones. The stones of that beach are a rare volcanic collection of geologic beauty. As recently as this morn, I commented about them to my brother: "Never trust any person that claims not to admire the Lambi stones!" Oddly, Net images of those stones are sadly lacking in quality. The real things, especially wet from sea surf, are a marvel to behold (and photograph).
Btw, David Bowie apparently included Patmos among his favoured holiday locales. In decades past, he was hosted there by royalty and other glitterati.

I am done. The endahksi.

Okay. We booked flights tonight (to Santorini) and ferry back.

There's still an open night and I'm trying to come up with options.

Idea 1 = Stay fairly near Piraeus (within 30 minutes) and spend the night in a coastal town so we wake up to an ocean view in the morning. Maybe Glyfada?
Idea 2 = Take an Uber from the port to a hotel in Athens. Not sure which one.
Idea 3 = Switch the last night from near the airport to 2 nights in Athens = and then take a day tour to Delphi. I'm considering the bus (3 hours each way) or a private driver.

We will have had 2 days in Athens previously, so not exactly what we will want to do on the return day(s) to Athens.

Lois, I don't know if it's too late or not, but I mistakenly posted that Santorini Mou Taverna was on the south end of Fira. It's on the south end of Oia. I don't know what I was thinking before!!

More details firmed up. Would still welcome favorites for Athens and Santorini.
Two days in Athens. Favorite casual tavern?
Flight to Santorini. Staying in Oia for two nights. Hoping to go to the taverna recommended here. Maybe a boat ride, maybe a traditonal wooden boat, but probably not a catarmaran nor at sunset.
Ferry back to Piraeus. Long day on the water. Would love to return for a cruise to several islands in warmer months, but this ferry ride is it for this trip. Uber to hotel in Athens. 2 nights in Athens again.
Day trip to Delphi and back.
Flying back out after a too short week, but that's how much time we have for this trip Hoping to return before too long and having the time to visit several islands.

Thanks for any additional tips, suggestions if you have them.

See my recommendations above, especially for the restaurant, La Maison.
Complete with pictures.

You couldn't easily walk from Oia. Drive to Imerovigli and walk from there.

You're welcome.

In Athens, for a more local experience, in the lovely Kolonaki neighborhood. They had delicious fish roe spread, taramosalata as an appetizer.
And next time you visit NYC, go to the International Market,543 9thAve,, behind the Port Authority bus terminal, to find authentic Greek products, feta in a barrel, etc.

Returning to this thread to glean ideas. Thanks for those tips! We'll check them out for lunch tomorrow!

Imerovigli in the distance over the plunge pool

Thanks everyone for so many good ideas. We are 2/3 of the way through the trip. It's been wonderful. Leaving Santorini tomorrow. Here are some photos from our terrace on Oia. I LOVED staying in Oia -
