Family trip to italy June 2007
Fam of 4 (kids 17 and 18). 10 days. 2 days Venice, 4 Tuscany/Florence, 3 Naples/Amalfi Coast, 1 Rome (to fly home).
Suggestions for places to stay? Especially Venice. Nice 3-star ok....would like to hold costs down to $200 per room if possible.
Any suggestions would help. Thanks

Hi
Have you been to Rome before since you are more or less skipping this destination? My wife and I went to Venice a few years back and I have posted a trip report with some pictures on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/italy_venice.htm . Maybe you can find some useful info there

Is the implication that you will be renting 2 rooms? If that is so, then your cost per room is fine-if that is for a family room, then it is skimpy. Also, although only you can know your family's tolerance for moving around, I think you are trying to do too much in 10 days-personally, I would be inclined to skip Naples/Amalfi Coast and concentrate on Venice and Tuscany.

Jayneann, Those apartments look really nice. I was having trouble figuring out the pricing / exactly how you would know which apartment you are gettting. But as I said, they look lovely. Let us know how it goes. Have a great trip.

For Rome, we enjoyed the Hotel Daphne: http://www.daphne-rome.com. 200E per room, but there's a discount for payment in cash.
A good friend of mine is staying at Arco del Lauro in Trastervere in early June: www.arcodellauro.it. 130E per night.
In Florence, we really liked the Tourist House Ghiberti: www.touristhouseghiberti.com. It's about 150E per night, but there's a cash discount.
And in Naples, we stayed at the Hotel Constantinopoli 104. http://www.costantinopoli104.it. It's about 250E per night.
I would agree that with 10 days that is a lot of moving around. I would probably pick 3 locations, such as 3 Venice, 3 Florence, 4 Rome. Or 3 Rome, 3 Naples, 4 Amalfi Coast. Or 3 Rome, 4 Tuscany, 3 Florence. Or something like that.
Anyway, have a great trip.
