Family of 4 traveling to Portugal to surf and explore
Hello. My family of 4, two teenagers (15, 16), my husband and I are hoping to surf in Portugal, the beginning of August. We are hoping to rent a place (through AirBNB) and consider that home. Hoping for an itinerary like this: surf a little in the AM, relax on the beach, walk to town for lunch, surf a little more in the afternoon. Spending days like this or exploring within a couple of hours the country around us. We have heard great things about Ericeira and Nazare for surfing. IS there also things to do, if you are not surfing? Are these towns walkable to restaurants, shops, etc. Is August a good time for such a vacation. We are coming from New York and want a great experience. We will have roughly, 8 nights, 9 days.
Thank you for your feedback.

We're not surfers and it's been a while since we were in that area, but I remember we loved to watch the surfers in both Peniche and Baleal. The Peniche peninsula is famous with big wave surfers.
The beaches are fabulous, too.
Nazaré is quite charming and you'll find restaurants and shops. Same for Peniche.

Hi
In Nazare you can spend your days exactly the way you describe.
Tourist info Nazare: https://www.portugaltravel.org/nazare-portugal
Surf info Nazare: https://nazarewaves.com/en/news
Surf info Portugal: https://www.momondo.com/discover/art...ts-in-portugal
Keep in mind that the waves that Nazare is famous for ( as high as 10 floor building) usually only happen in the winter.
Fishermen have drowned in Nazare , so if you are a beginner go someplace else like Carcavelos beach (outside of Lisbon).
Happy travels
