Eze/Villenfranche/La Turbie

We were originally going to have dinner in Eze one evening but all the restaurants that I have checked are closed on Sunday except one I could not afford.

Should I check out ones in La Turbie or Villenfranch and skip Eze altoghether or just bite the bullet and make reservations?

Any input would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Ron- is this town in the area near the towns I mentioned? We are basing ourselves in Nice and will have a car.. is this is reasonable drive? Can I 'hit" Eze or La Turbie for a drink before or after?

Thank you for the recommendation.

Beaulieu-sur-Mer is 9km from Eze and 14km from la Turbie.

Eze is really lovely. Perhaps you could visit and have a drink or lunch in one of the hotels. We had a beautiful breakfast on the terrace of Chateau Eza.

Not enough info Kathryn. If this dinner was your only chance to see Eze, you should go, even if just for a drink. The Chateau de la Chevre D'Or is very famous, if that's the place that you say you can't afford. I won't tell you to go anyway if it's gonna break the bank. So what are the details of this quandry?

Villefranche is a charming town with some lovely restaurants, but it's totally different than being up high in Eze.

Beaulieu sur Mer is indeed lovely, but again, not the same as being up in Eze. Where else are you planning to visit?

There are several places on St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat that have beautiful biews. I think the tea room, which serves nice lunches, is open on Sunday. A good way to save money is to have lunch at expensive restaurants instead of dinner--prices are lower.

Bealieu sur Mer is known for excellent restaurants and if you are going for succulent food no need to look further than Le Catalan. You can sit outside or inside; the food is just outstanding and moderately priced. I took friends to this restaurant and everybody just inhale the food, it was that good. They are located at 52 Bd. Marechal Leclerc, phone 04 93 01 02 78. It is to the left if heading North towards Monaco.

Thank you for the input.
Mclaurie- yes, the Eze Chatau was a bit more than we wanted to spend.

Altogether, we will be visiting Nice, St. Tropez, Antibes, Monacco..

We want to head to Eze on Saturday... for the views especially.

What if we drove up to Eze, had a pre-dinner drink then head down (down??) to Bealieu for dinner?

Via car, do you know apx. long long (time wise) from Nice to those areas?

I think we are considering either La Pignelle or Le Catalan in Bieulieu or a restraunt in Eze which the name is currently escaping me.

Please let me know what you think. thanks

From Nice to Eze doesn't take very long--but of course much depends on when you go and how the traffic is. Back to Beaulieu would also not take long.

For approximate driving times, go to mappy.com or viamichelin.com.

"Altogether, we will be visiting Nice, St. Tropez, Antibes, Monacco.."

I hope you're not planning to switch hotels from Antibes to Nice to Monaco. These are all relatively close and you could visit all from 1 location and even do it by train! The only one that's a serious distance from the others is ST. Tropez.

I think your plan for drinks in Eze is fine, but what about visiting there during the day one day so you don't have to drive to 2 places in one evening?

We are staying in Nice and not changing hotels thankfully.

We will be there for 2 full days, one 1/2 day. Day one is Friday, 8/25- I think that without flight delays we will be in Nice at apx. 4pm or so..

Second day- visit and lunch in Antibes.. Eze etc. Sat eve

Third day- Sunday- day in St. Tropez.

Then we are off for Italy- for 1.5 days.. return to Monaco in the afternoon, stay overnight there, and next day leave for Paris..

Would you still suggest going to Eze and Bealiue on different days or seperatly?

Thank you.. Kate

I'm one who does not like Monaco and am curious why there when the other places are more real to get a feeling of the area.

Some people really love Monaco--maybe it's the glitz or the image of the principality that's been portrayed in the press. It's not my kind of place, but then I love the countryside best.
