I am flying into Nice on July 1, I have a reservation at 2 hotels, one in Nice and one in Eze. I'm having a hard time deciding which town to stay in. I've been to the Riviera before and like the idea of the train system. I have never been to Eze and have heard wonderful things about it. My only concern is the getting to and from the town. I know there is a train stop at Eze sur Mer, but how do you get to the town with luggage? I don't think they allow cars in the village. If I take a cab from the airport, where do they let you off?

Nice, I know would be easier but more congested and noisy.

Eze, while charming, is VERY small. We stayed two nights and more would have been serious overkill. The two main (Chevre D'Or and Chateau Eza) hotels have you leave your luggage at the bottom and they bring it up by donkey or mule. You walk up and up and up. IMO, better to stay in Nice and take a day trip (by cab) to Eze.

I think if you're interested in seeing other towns during your visit, it would be advisable to base in Nice. Plus you will have many more options for dining/ nightlife if you stay in Nice. And just so you know, noise shouldn't be much of an issue. Most hotels offer double-glazed windows to keep out street noise.

Hello, i am living in Eze bord de mer not the village. The train line follows the seaside. At the station, in july, you would find a bus shuttle to Eze village.
The village streets are so narrow (with much stairs)so there is no way to drive a car inside it. If you take a cab from the airport you will be charged a fortune !
I do think that, following someone else recommendations, your best choice would be to stay in Nice, take the train to Eze bord de mer and, if you can early in the morning due to the temperature, hike up the hill from the train station (Nietzche path -where he is said to have "written" "Ainsi parlait Zarathoustra" )(dont know the title in english.
Excepted if you wish to stay in the quietness (when tourists have left)of the village and make some kind of contemplation, there is not much to do in the village justifying a longer stay than overnite. Right there are wonderful sights either side of the village overlooking the sea. enjoy !

And don't forget, you can take a direct bus to Eze Village fromm Nice Gare Routière (Bus Terminal)on the moyenne corniche route. I forget the number but is it 83? Actually I prefer this and did it twice. You will have a magnificent view over the Bay of Villefranche. You can hike down the Nietzche's path and at Eze-su-Mer, take a train back to Nice (but I prefer No.100 bus). Stay late in Eze (till sunset at least) is a good idea. I did it having a drink at the terrace of Hotel Chèvre d'Or last October with a great view. Then returned with the 83(?) bus on the way I came from. After dark you cannot hike down the Nietzche's path.

Even though the traffic can be tight going into Nice in late afternoon/ evening.

I was responding in regard to the point concerning train stop. I mentioned line 100 as the most obvious as far as i am concerned as i leave in eze bord de mer and not in the village.
Kappa is right there is also a bus line going to Eze Plateau de la Justice, above the village.
Line number is 82 and you'll leave the bus at "Eze village" stop

We just got back from staying at Chateau Eze and I don't think it would be a conveinent location without a car. Honestly it wasn't even that conveinent with a car.

I would stay in Nice and do day trips to Eze.

Eze is good for a few hours. The best way to get there is by bus. We drove, but had a hard time finding parking.
Stay in Nice!

We stayed in Nice and took the bus to Eze. Great day trip and don't miss the garden at the top! One of the best vistas in the world! I you really like the town take another trip via bus.
