Extra day - Venice or Sorrento?
We want to add one extra day onto our 12 day tour of Italy. Trying to decide between one extra day at the front end in Venice (wasting some of it for jet lag??)---or adding one extra day at the end of our tour in Sorrento. Our tour already has 2 nites in Venice.....2 in Florence...3 in Rome and 3 in Sorrento. I thought the extra day in Venice to explore would be fun but now I'm not sure if we would rather have more time in Sorrento - maybe spend a day on the Amalfi Drive etc. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I haven't been to Sorrento, but count me in for Venice. Three full days in the city alone will give you enough time to see most of the sights, but two full days would be very rushed. The ideal to me is four days there, with one used mostly to see the lagoon islands. You will want time to wander the backstreets - not as spectacular as the Grand Canal and Piazza San Marco, but the real charm of Venice lies in the neighborhoods.

Of course, I would spend the extra day in Venice. Sorrento is pretty, but I find it boring. It all depends upon what you want to do. If you want to see stuff, stay the extra day in Venice. If you want to relax and just poke around some shops, maybe sit by the pool, stay the extra day in Sorrento. However, if you are in Sorrento, you can easily hop on over to Capri, which is one of my favorite places in the world, and I think everyone should see Capri at least once in their lives. But, again it is: Venice=Culture Sorrento=Relaxation. What will you be in the mood for?????
