Explosions at Brussels airport

Just heard that there have been explosions at Brussels Airport. Hope nobody is traveling there today?
Just happened, but they are talking about casualties.

I'm hearing reports of up to 11 dead. Apparently the explosion was by the American Airlines check-in.

Horrible. Hopefully no one from Fodors was there today.

I hear the trains are also disrupted, including those to the Netherlands, with extra controls at the stations for the trains that did get away.

Travel through Belgium and inside Brussels is likely to be disrupted for quite some time, until further notice. An urban metro station was also attacked, and the central train station has been locked down according to one report I read.

Two stations. Schumann, one of the main stations for the EU complex was one of them.

There was absolutely NO control at Bruxelles-midi this morning. I guess it will be different tonight on the way home.

I hear bombs exploded in the metro too.

2 stations : Malbeek Schuman and Montgomery.
Seems very well organized.

I don't think my daughter will go tonight to the theater in the center of Bruxelles, as was planned.

BBC advises to expect extra levels of security at London airports, train stations. Most inter-Europe train travel disrupted. It is reasonable to assume all European airports will have heightened security.

Brussels authorities ask that people not use cellphones to speak with friends inside the country as it is overwhelming the system. E-mail or text message or check facebook.

Official count of the dead and injured has been rising.

Yes, the system is quite overloaded.

Thalys has been suspended too. The ones underway turn back.

France has announced tightening of security measures at CDG (at least).

Unconfirmed reports of new explosion in Brussels (very typical in these types of events, not necessarily true, but governments have advised all travelers and residents to remain "sheltered in place")

Facebook has activated its "safety check" feature for people in Brussels.

Almost all airports in Europe have announced increased security measures, meaning likelihood of delays passing through security or finding certain areas of the airports closed. Allow for extra time if traveling.

The report that one bomb was directed at American airlines desk has been contradicted by later reports. The situation regarding that remains unclear. Could be true. Might not be.

There were twice as many people killed last week in an attack in Ankara, but no mention of it here.
