Explosion in London?

I just heard in the CNN news about an explosion/bomb that went off (according to witnesses)outside a supermarket on a busy shopping street in south London (Brixton). The bomb was, supposedly, inside a blue sports bag and went off when a boy moved it. Nobody killed; many injured.

What's going on? Northern Ireland? Kosovo?

The police reported it was criminal rather than ploitically motivated.

Today the papers are hypothesising that it's racial. (Brixton is a largely black area)

The police are still keeping an open mind about it, including the theory that it might be the work of a single, Unabomber type of person.
If you want to keep up with the news, try www.bbc.co.uk which will lead you to the B B C's websie, including the news sites. It's more likely you will keep up to date on this story there than on C N N simply because it is a British story.

Maira: You might also check the London Times website (www.the-times.co.uk). You can access today's paper, and also look at reports from the day the explosion occurred. It's very simple to register, and free!
Sadly another one tonight in the East End. Both appear to be racially motivated and targeted at areas with high ethnic minority populations. BBC news web site will keep you updated on events as will any of the UK newspaper sites. The guardian at http://www.news-unlimited.co.uk is also good. Neither explosion was in central London and tourists/visitors should not be unduly worried. Lets just hope the culprits are caught soon.
