ekscrunchy -- I had to retire early - I was a federal employee. Not doing it. So now - yes! The upcoming trips are going to be fabulous.....London in May, Verona in September and Paris in October. How about you? Where are you off too this year?

I didn't use Plum Guide for Paris, but for Genoa. I had no problems with the company. They were responsive and connect you with the mgr or owner of the rental who was great. There was a mixup with the meet up on arrival at the apt. It was mid afternoon and we waited outside at a cafe so it wasn't a problem. At some point there was a minor issue with the apt which was addressed promptly. I like their website how it shows you pros and cons or something like that. I do check their site for any rentals I do, but so far nothing has worked for me. Enjoy your retirement & travels.

Hi, Susan!!!
I'm leaving Saturday for 3 weeks solo in Spain--5 nights in Sevilla; two weeks at same hotel I've stayed at for two years in a row, now three, outside the "white town" of Vejer de la Frontera; finally, a night in Jerez.
I hope to travel to Spain again in June. Almost certainly this will be a solo trip. Galicia. Three nights in Santiago de Compostela followed by about a week on the Isla de la Toja, and finally a few days in either Vigo or A Corona, depending on the flights home. I did almost the same trip last year and I find the driving was very easy, so decided to go again since I have the time and I loved the area last year. But partner's medical procedure might have me cancel this trip--I'm hoping for the best.
Early October: Puglia, beginning, thanks to your super report, with 3-4 nights in Bari. Then 3 nights Ceglie Messapica, 4 nights Nardo (hotel recommended by RainyCityGirl), and about 9 days in hotel outside Savelletri that we've stayed at three times before. I could add something on to this at the end but since partner is going along, have to be aware of dates of baseball games. (Please do not laugh or, really, do laugh--it's pretty funny!)
Other areas I'd like to visit would include:
Sardinia (never been)
NE italy...Veneto and nearby and maybe combine with return to Le Marche
Catalunya including Costa Brava
Asturias/Cantabria/Basque--return visit to places I've seen and new places..
Africa (!!). Tanzania or Zimbabwe (???). Oddly enough, I think this would be a good trip in a few years, since safari trips require almost no walking (unless you desire) so partner could manage even when he would no longer be able to navigate European cities so well......
Sorry for the looooong digression here. I'm finding myself spending so much time researching trips that might never take place but it's so much fun to dream, and plan!!
You are a big inspiration for lots of us....so many trips on your own...I'm thrilled for you and always love reading your reports!!

Morning Yestravel and zebec -- thank you both SO much for your comments. You are making me feel much, much better about the Plum Guide. You know -- these days there are so many negative reviews about everything - as well as positive. I will include them in my search for an apartment in Paris! Much appreciated.
Ekscruncy - I wish I could claim to have written a trip report about Puglia, but I have not yet been there. It is on "the list." The photos and history of Lecce are incredible. It sounds like you will be traveling non stop for thru the fall. What fun! I have never been to Spain, and can't wait to go. After going to Egypt in 2023, I realized I am not the kind of person who can go someplace like Africa. I am not very brave. Of course the second week of my trip was when Hammas attacked Israel so the second part of my trip was a little scary. As it turns out - I love Europe. I love art -- after Paris I am planning to go to either Ghent or Bruges to fit in more art.
I know what you mean about planning and dreaming - for me that is a big part of the joy - the anticipation. So enjoy!

Thanks so much, Susan.
I know Africa is not on your immediate list, but do think about it for someday. It's truly easy to do on your own, even more so than Europe, because you are looked after every day whether you go alone on a trip planned for you by an Africa specialist travel agent, or on a small-group tour; so you really have very little time that you are actually alone.
But you have so many other places to visit, so......
You are a great inspiration to those of us who travel alone!!! I am confusing you with another Susan who took a solo trip to Puglia, spending time in Bari......I'm sorry about that! Both of you are female who are great solo travelers. Are you from Toronto?
Eager to hear about the upcoming planning, and the trip!!!!
