Hi everyone : <BR> <BR>I and my husband will be travelling to London 15-22 May. Would appreciate anyone answering the following questions. <BR>1) My husband will be attending a meeting at Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. If we decide to stay in London, how could he reach there from Charing Cross or Knightsbridge area? How long would the journey be? <BR> <BR>2) We would like to take day trips out of London, possibly to Bath/Stratford/Cotsworld/Stonehenge. Would appreciate info on guided tour companies (URL or fax no) as we would like to make reservations before we arrive. <BR> <BR>3) Any recommendations on mid-priced hotels in a convenient locality; near a tube station (80-100 pounds)..also request for fax or phone no for reservations. <BR> <BR>Thank you.

I have rgulaly overnighted in the Gainsborough (www.eeh.co.uk/eeh/) and found it helpful, clean and convenient. Rack rate for a single room is £60 per night, but you can often negotiate a lower rate.

Trains to Beaconsfield leave from Marylebone station and take between 30 and 40 minutes. From Charing Cross to Marylebone is 5 stops on the Bakerloo (I think) underground line, 15 min tops. From Knightsbridge would involve taking the Piccadilly line and changing to the Bakerloo line at Piccadilly Circus, so up to a half hour. <BR> <BR>No ideas about tours from London and I can't think of any reason to book in advance - there will be lots of brochures in your hotel. One thing to consider, for Bath and Oxford, would be cheap day returns by rail and to pick up a tour in each place, like the Guide Friday, open top double decker buses, where you can hop off, hop on at sights of interest.

You can book train tickets online now at a new site and check journey times. You don't need reservations for guided tours before you arrive, there should be loads of tourist brochures in hotels etc. Many tourist info offices do their own (free) guided tours, so get in touch with them for Bath, Stratford etc. For the Cotswolds a car would be your best bet, but there are companies that do tours. I have to say BATH is definitely worth the day trip. I'd even suggest an over-nighter if you can. Beautiful. As far as Stonehenge, pretty much what you see is what you get. I found it a bit of a dissapointment. You can't get close to the actual stones/rocks/are they boulders? anymore. The audio tour is also a bit dry. However, I guess its one of those things you "have" to see. BUT regardless..... Bath is beautiful. <BR>Thumbs Up!
