My boyfriend's mother came to visit the states for the first time from Ireland and remarked that she found it disconcerting that the water in US toilets rises UP (in that whirlpool motion), before it goes down.

So maybe OUR potties are weird --?

Marlena

Marlena, now that you mention it, it is rather weird that the water in American toilets rises before it goes down. What does it want? Why won't it just leave?

I was in a restaurant and nature called. When I finished answering. I reaized I could not figure out where to flush. I did not want to leave my conversation for the next person so I loitered outside of the door untill the next person showed up. I explained in what few words I knew in the language and the rest by sign language. The women laughed and in english told me where to look. As I returned to my table I spotted her with her husband? laughing. A few minutes later they had a glass of the local wine sent to our table.
