For everyone interested, here is the official website. If you go to Multimedia lounge you can see all the videos of the participating contestants.
My favourite is France with A Chaque Pas.

All of your posts have provided enjoyment - thanks. Keep 'em coming as we have less than one week to go until the extravaganza! It's not surpising that many of you feel as I do about the show: It's kind of like approaching a fiery crash along the expressway -- you know it's going to be real bad but you just have to look to see what's going on anyway.
A couple of tidbits I picked up this week:
Eurovision has sent out a detailed (minute-to-minute) schedule of the show to those networks/carriers who have rights to broadcast the show live. Apparently there is a 3-minute slot labeled only as "ABBA" and no one at Eurovision can/will say what is in that segment - fueling rumors of a ABBA reunion to mark the 30th anniversary of their landmark 1974 ESC win. My take: extremely doubtful.
And from the nostalgia file: Remember the song which came third in 1958, was translated into English, and went on to win two Grammy Awards for an American singer named Dean Martin? The song was "Volare".
PS - from the "worst lyrics ever file":
1980s Israeli entry with lyrics which translated to "here comes that Sunday depression again. I want, I want a cucumber".
Cheers, KS

Cailin I think it was James Kilban...creepy guy. We saw a poster for him outside a house on the way to Carrick last week too funny. He is like a more masculine Daniel O'Donnell. Something about him puts me off!

I know I shouldn't be encouraging this, but here's a link to the BBC's web coverage:

So...who'd you vote for? We liked several, including Serbia & Montenegro, Sweden, Turkey, UK, Poland, and Cyprus (the song was lame, but the British girl singing it had a great voice). We thought Russia was definitely this year's Nul Points contender!

All dreadful, but then that's Eurovision!
As a point of interest, the Swedish jazz trombonist Nils Landgren, has remixed ABBA classics in a jazz, R n B-cum rap style - better than the originals. The album is called "Funky ABBA", buy it!

Enjoyable show, I think the standard of music is improving and I also think that Terry Wogan (BBC) was either sober or gagged.
However it would appear that the voting was once again very interesting, I have to say that I initially thought Spain would win as they had a new Political leader but obviously I was wrong ;-)
And I have reached the conclusion that UK will never ever win again, irrespective of how good the song is as our nearest neighbour is France and we all politically dislike each other immensly. So the countries in Eastern Europe who share similar ideals, cultures and political friendship, will always be up there. Unless of course the UK has a new government or prime minister just before next years event.
Do you remember when the UK won it last time it wasn't because the song by Katrina and the waves was particularly fantastic but because Tony Blair had just gone in to no 10.
Call me an old cynic, well I probably am
However, well done Istanbul, good professional show.

And how about Greece and Cyprus ALWAYS giving each other 12 points. Russia really should have had nul points; terrible, but then, their neighbours vote for them, and they have lots of neighbours.

This contest is now nothing more than a political vote. Everybody votes for their allies and neighbours in the contest, and it is not judged on musical talent at all. In my opinion, James Fox had a great song, and deserved to do well. Maybe not win, but certainly to do well. I expected him to come in at the top ten, but infact he was lingering in the bottom half of the table.
This really does show how political this event is. You cannot possibly tell me that the Albanian song was worth winning that.
Terry Wogan's commentry on the event is fantastic, and one has to say it is the reason why I watch it. I don't know who the rest of Europe has as commentators, but I wondered how seriously they take it.
The presenters obviously know about Terry Wogan, since they did mention him during the voting process, and after a contest a couple of years ago in which he called the presenters Dr Death and the Toothfairy, he became a hate figure across Europe. It's such a great laugh!!
Finally, why was the UK's background that street in London. There was a puddle on the side of the street and it was probably the worst picture the UK could use to promote tourism.
Where was the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Blenheim Palace, Windsor Castle, Leicester Square, BBC HQ even?! A great disappointment as far as backgrounds go, I'm sure you'll agree.

"Everybody votes for their allies and neighbours in the contest" Not necessarily. This was the first time I voted because I was afraid that Ruslana The Cave Woman would win (which of course she did, so my vote was in vain and I threw away 50 cents). I voted Albania, and last time I looked it was on the other side of Europe, and not particularly an ally either.

There was a vote on the BBC website as to what the background should be and Old Compton Street won. I do think that it was "sabotaged" - one website I visited was asking people to go and vote for Old Compton Street, and another e-mail newsletter I received did the same - and I'm sure they weren't the only ones!

That, of course, tells you a lot about the most vocal part of the UK audience... and EBU-wide I suspect, to judge by the overall ambiance of quite a few of the performances.
And I for one would far rather we all sat around screeching 'Get her!' at Molvania, or whoever, than lobbing bombs at each other. That the Balkan countries, and Greece/Turkey/Cyprus, are expressing any sort of public support for each other, even in something so apparently camp and trivial, is actually a small miracle.

Quite interesting to see that quite some people mentioned beforehand that Belgium would win, while we actually ended up last but one... probably too much like Ukraine, and less show, so the people who liked this kind of stuff all voted Ukraine.
And about what Eurovision is broadcasting more: royal weddings for example. In fact, this years Eurosong was supposed to take place May 22, and was moved to the 15th because of the wedding of Spanish crown prince Felipe and dona Letizia.
