Europe's Sweetest Bridges

What are your favorite European bridges - bridges in cities not the Millau type super bridges in the country but bridges in cities.

My Favorites
1- Tower Bridge, London (not so old but so unique)
2- Ponte Vecchio, Florence
3- Rialto, Venice
4- Charles Bridge, Prague
5- Hump-backed Wooden Bridge on Amstel, Amsterdam
6- sur the Pont d'Avignon (the part that remains)
7- Wooden bridges, Lucerne
8- Iron Bridge, Iron Bridge Gorge, UK - world's first iron span and a showcase for the use of iron anywhere
9- Railway bridge, Cologne (not gorgeous but the world's busiest train bridge with trains trundling across it incessantly; pedestrian walkway on it
10- Pont du Gard, France - really an aqueduct but called a bridge; otherwise would be number 1

Interested in your 'sweetest' bridges???

Near the scenic village of Lavertezzo in the Val Verzasca (Ticino), there's an ancient double arched stone bridge over the swiftly flowing stream.

9 is called Hohenzollernbrücke.

I like all of Brunel's bridges of Victorian England - such as

Royal Albert (Saltash)
Maidenhead
Grand Union Canal
Clifton

...and for pure late Victorian excess

Pont Alexandre III

Mostar before the war (haven't been myself, though)
Holtenauer Hochbrücke in Kiel (nothing special but connected to certain childhood memories)

Here are favourites from my first trip to Europe last March:

Chain Bridge, Budapest
Ponte Sant'Angelo, Rome
Ponte Santa Trinita, Florence
Ponte Vecchio, Florence
Rialto, Venice
Bridge of Sighs, Venice (cheesy choice, I know but what can I say...)
Ponte di Mezzo, Pisa (not so much the bridge as the gorgeous view along the Arno)

Hopefully will see many more in the years to come!

Another vote for the Stari Most at Mostar. Destroyed in 1993, but since rebuilt using much of the original stone. Not quite as graceful in shape as the original, but it is still good and in a stunning setting.

Trivia Time!

A number of credible sources state that the people of Avignon danced under the Saint Bénezet bridge, not on it, as the song would suggest.

There is a road running along the river bank, and I have stood on it under the bridge, so the idea is entirely plausible to me.

What's already been listed, plus:

The Vigeland Park Bridge in Oslo with all the sculptures on it.

The Bridge of Sighs in Venice?

I just recently saw a TV documentary about rebuilding of Mostar bridge. Astonishing workmanship.

I love the:
1-Kapellebrucke in Lucerne
2-Queensferry railroad bride outside Edinburgh
3-The little bridge in Ramsau right across the street from the famous church
4-Rialto Bridge in Venice
5-Tower Bridge (no brainer)
6-Marienbrucke at Neuschwanstein.
7-Ponte Vecchio in Florence
8-Bridge of Sighs in Venice
9-Any Dutch-style Bascule bridge found everywhere in the Netherlands
10-Heidelberg Bridge

I guess I'm equally impressed by what the bridge passes OVER as much as the bridge itself.

Never thought of a bridge as sweet, but among my favourites are Clare College Bridge, Cambridge, the Pont des Arts (Paris), and in London the Millennium Bridge and the Hungerford pedestrian bridges.
