Yes Erasmus. As you may know, he spent part of his life at Basel, where he died. His landlord at Basel was the Publisher you are looking for.

The illustator of Utopia's third edition is held to be Ambrosius Holbein.

I think that I answered all your questions -- misread the hint about the brother. But I did answer it correctly.

Clue: This famous painting (4 words, 7, 2, 3, 4), located in the (name of museum: 17) museum, appears in a movie (name of movie: 7 letters, 5th = "r&quot(well, I suppose as a reproduction) that was recently remade. The original is directed by (name: 9 letters, 3rd = "r&quot.

I've read that it's supposedly one of the first paintings (if not the first) to depict a (type/object: 4 letters) scene, but I could confirm this via the net. The type/object appears as a word in the title.

Orig directed by: Tarkovsky

still working on the other parts - am I on the right track or off altogether?

Hey, welcome back! How was the trip?

Everything is correct but the movie. Search via Google (it's a sci-fi movie). The remake has George Clooney in it.

We want our clue now! (Just kidding.)

Well, who wants to come back to work after a vacation? Most certainly not me. But you had fun when you were there! I'll look forward to seeing a report.

Ok, here goes my clue:

This island (1 word, 5 letters) has the oldest megaliths in the world. Throughout its turbulent history, it has changed hands among the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Muslims, French, Spanish and British and is now a republic. One of its more famous visitors (2 words: 2 letters, 4 letters, "u" is 3rd letter of 2nd word) was shipwrecked here.

In later centuries, this island and ______ (1 word, 6 letters, "i" is 4th letter) became part of the __________ dynasty (1 word, 12 letters); and was even later taken over by __________ (1 word, 8 letters, "l" is 5th letter) in 1798. This island joined the EU in _____.

I'll just assume I'm right and I'll give a clue, but feel free to overrule this if I'm incorrect. I won't be able to check back until tomorrow, so just go ahead without me if you've the answers.

Clue:

You'll have to identify 3 painters and 3 museums and 1 painting.

Painter 1 (6 letters) painted this famous work (3 words, 5, 2, 6) located in this museum (6 letters). "u" is the first letter of the third word.

Variations can be found here:

Painter 2 (4 letters) actually painted two paintings located in this museum (5 letters).

Painter 3 (5 letters) painted this painting located in this museum (5 letters). This painting was deemed scandalous when it appeared.

Hint: All three museums are world-class museums and major tourist attractions, located in major cities, though cities 2 and 3 are much larger.

Right 111op - however Malta joined the EU on March 8, 2003. Your turn!

Hints: Museum 3 was formerly a train station. Paintings 1 and 3 are probably at least 300 years apart (though I didn't check). That's a ballpark figure.

The three museums are three separate countries, all very popular countries. Based on the posts on this board, though, Countries 1 and 3 are probably slightly more popular.

Clarification -- in case that wasn't clear, the paintings by 2 and 3 are clearly influenced by painting 1. In the case of painter 2, it's actually a pair of paintings.

Another hint -- I posted here to ask about a series of paintings that Painter 2 supposedly did.

Ok, people, enough hints. You're such bright people. You can figure this out!

Yes, museum 3 = Orsay.

Ok, another hint. Painter 3 sounds a lot like another painter who paints water lilies, but they're *not* the same painter.
