Europe Mountain resorts

My parents would like to visit a European mountain resort. They really don't know how to ski but they would simply like to make a visit anyway and take a lesson or two. They plan to visit Europe in July and I would like recommendations on what might be best resorts to stay-if it can combine some scenic views with some ski lessons that would be ideal.

Thanks in advance.

Hi nandshah,

I believe there's only one place for summer skiing now, and that's in Zermatt, Switzerland.

You should know that summer skiing isn't all that much fun. It is skiing on a glacier, and these days there may not be any snow on top of the glacial ice. That means skiers are basically sliding on the ice, which is hard to do and not a way to learn to ski.

If they really want to learn to ski, it would be best to schedule the trip in late January or February.

If they can do without skiing, then there are still many mountain resorts to visit to enjoy the dramatic peaks.

I think there is also a glacier in Austria w/ summer skiing (I have friends who skied in Austria one June but I'm not sure exactly where)

But as swandav says -- that really isn't 'ski season'.

In addition to Zermatt and Saas Fee in Switzerland, there are 4 resorts in France for summer skiing : Alpe d'Huez, Val d'Isère, Tignes and Les Deux Alpes.
Summer is definitely not the best season to learn how to ski.

I've travel many times during summer time to "ski" destinations
but the snow was like ice. In some places there isn't any snow.
Of course I enjoyed the nature and the "melancholic atmosphere".
