Europe in early December
Never been to Europe in Nov/Dec. Love to be in Switzerland, Austria, Germany & Italy, but would also go for other places. PLanning for 25-Nov to 25-Dec. Prefer driving through but can go for train option as well. Any help in deciding the itinirery? What would be your options/wish?

Fly into Frankfurt, staying off of the autobahn drive south as far as Friedrichshafen, then turn east and drive through Austria and up to Garmisch and then along the Alpenstrasse, stopping at the Christmas Markets along the way and ending up somewhere near Berchtesgaden

Snoopy, thanks.. nice route, never had that one. Getting greedy can you add few more details for a 30 day trip? Will snow become a problem for driving? Would you prefer to enter Switzerland?

I guess I'd just pick three or four places along that route and stay for several days in each on. I could easily spend 30-60 days just making that route.
Im not much of a Switzerland fan . . . purely for subjective / financial reasons: I found plenty of interesting places to get more for my money in Austria and Bavaria where I was looking for mountains, snow, and lodge atmosphere. I like Garmisch, Mittenwald, and St Anton for skiing.
Whether or not snow is a problem has to do with where you want to go and how fast you want to get there. We were basically snowed in at St Anton once . . . unless we wanted to take the main 4-lane highway out of town, the road to Zurs and Lech was too steep and too slick for our 2-wheel drive rental car.
