Hmm, I'm wondering if this is a good idea. Do you know what the weather is like in London/Paris/Rome around the end of Feb/early March?

There are reviews of each of their packages. On this trip, everyone seems to recommend upgrading the Paris to Rome overnight train from 2nd class so you don't have to share a compartment for 6 people. I guess it depends on your budget and preferences...

I was in London and Paris last February. It was rainy, as I recall, and cool but not cold (as compared to northern NJ). Maybe 45-55 degrees during the day, if I had to guess. Not sure if that is typical.

Warmer months bring more pleasant weather, but also higher prices. I think you can check out the prices for each package at Go-Today during various months, for comparison...

April and May looks like about $1300 and summertime about $1600.

This is amazing to me. I just read al the reviews on the website. I wish I had heard about go-today sooner. I am feeling like it's going to be a spontaneous decision, but I guess that's the way it is when you want to get an affordable package. I think we may end up booking this. Now I am worried we won't get our passports in time... Hmmm...

I'm glad that it may work for you. It is exciting to get a deal.

Maybe you could search the Fodors Europe forum for people's comments on Go-Today, just to make sure they are mostly positive.

Also, you can independently check the hotels out at www.tripadvisor.com and also www.venere.com, among other sites.

Good luck and happy travelling!

That sounds like the ideal package for you! I wonder if you could extend your stays to 4,4 and 4 nights. That would be ideal, and shouldn't cost much more.

I just read your new thread - be VERY careful about which Go Today hotels you choose. the London one is in Kings Cross and I just looked at the location of the the Paris hotel and it is quite far out of the center.

Above you mentioned you don't even have a guidebook yet. I highly recommend you get one. Something general. I love Fodor's and it can get you excellent information, but I believe it is a confusing place to START planning a trip when you have no background or research done yet.

This thread is literally 'all over the map'. I can see why you would be confused. I kindly suggest you back up a bit and do some reading and talking with your husband. Try to come up with a more reasonable itinerary, then ask specific questions. I would NOT rush in a book a budget package knowing so little about it. Nothing against Go-Today because I don't know a thing about it, neither do the people telling you about it here!!

I agree with suze. You've gotten lots of suggestions, based on what we think you are looking for. But, only you know what will really make you happy, so please research everything so you can have your dream trip.

I too was going to suggest a tour package for doing all you want to do. As far as a hotel being out of the city center, especially in Paris, the metro will get you any place you want to go quickly and cheaply should you have enough free time.

My first trip to Europe was in 1999 with a Globus tour. The thing about the tour is you should have informed guides to tell you lots about what you are seeing, you have no lines to wait in for the places you are actually going in to...for examply, we went right up when we got to the Eiffle Tower AND the fee was included in our tour price and then lines below for people waiting to get up the tower were "for days" long. You don't waste your time getting lost in a particular city, so the use of your time is done pretty efficiently. It really got my "juices flowing"' for travel. I was in Paris for 9 days last month, loved every minute, never ran out of things to see and do and didn't do half of what I thought I was going to do and the time just flew by. If you want a "taste", my personal feeling is that a good tour company will be able to give you a fair price and you can utilize your time effectively.

Also, we had a very diverse group of people on our tour. There were two young single girls in their early to mid 20's, two young just married honeymooners, a young single guy..I'm guessing late 20's to early 30's, a thirteen year old with her parents, and the rest of the group was forty somethings to one couple in their 70's. I think we got the variety because Globus is a mid range company so affordable to a broader range of people.

What ever you do, I'm sure it will be a good experience and wet your appitite for travel.
