Sounds like you're going to have fun! If camper vans are anything like car rentals in Europe, you might be able to lease one for such a long period. Also, if camper vans are anything like cars, you might have to pay a premium for the privilege of taking one into Eastern Europe. You could try calling the major auto rental firms and asking for referrals, in the event that they don't rent campers.

Also, not many people on this board go the camper van route, so you might want to google to see if you can find a board specializing in this sort of thing. Good luck.

Whilst in most of Europe it's easy to purchase a van, it's extremely difficult to get it registered or insured unless you are legally resident in that country.

The main exceptions to that are the UK and Ireland - but then you have the problem of a RHD van in a LHD Europe plus the costs of getting it to & from the "mainland" as well as insuring it especially for eastern Europe & beyond.

Try looking somewhere like thegumtree or tntmagazine where Ads for antipodeans on their travels are to be found

Do a Google on "motorhome hire UK", lots of motorhome hire companies.

The previous poster is correct, you may have to pay an isurance premium for going to Easter Europe, if at all allowed.

I think you'd get more info asking around there in Oz, as travelling round Europe by campervan is something very many young Australians do (but hardly anyone else ever does).

Just some comments on traveling Europe by campervan:

- Many old towns have narrow streets which are difficult to negotiate with a campervan.

- In many towns, it will be impossible to park the campervan.

- Especially in France, the most beautiful spots (beaches, vistas etc.) are blocked for campervans by steel bars.

- In many countries, it is illegal (and not advisably) to sleep overnight in a campervan, so you past stay at a campground.

Hence, it would strongly recommend to take bicycles with you in order to increase your mobility. Renting a campervan will cost you a fortune, but I am also doubtful if buying and selling will work easily since the market for campervans is small in Europe.
