Euro Quiz # 43 - Geography
#23
Annhig has been working, but is thrilled to see another PalenQ quiz.
as in the Eurovision song Contest, here are the answers from Plymouth:
1- Massif Central
3- Rhone?
5- Lorelei - anyone else know the song? I don't know what it means!
6- Germany, Hungary, Holland?
7- wetlands in Provence - and i'm guessing tours on horseback.
8- Ireland, Iceland, Portugal.
Disqualify me if you dare!

We hold you Europeans and UK residents to a higher level.
So you have to get more correct.
In cases of a tie...the non European wins.
Seems fair to me.

It seems to me that nobody answered question 6 correctly:
1. Ukraina
2. Romania
3. Bulgaria
4. Serbia
5. Hungary
6. Slovakia
7. Austria
8. Germany
BTW:
The source of the Danube lies 12 kms north of the Swiss border
At the junction of Passau, the Inn river (coming from the Swiss Engadin Valley and containing some water from the Italian Spoel river) brings more water than the Danube.

26% of the Netherlands is below sea level. 55% is susceptible to flooding since 29% is susceptible to river flooding.
Hopefully none of it will get seriously flooded.
There were big floods in the mid 1990s, due to river flooding. A lot of work has been done since then to give the rivers room to flood and to protect towns and cities along the rivers.

8. I think Iceland is 1 hour earlier, the same as the Azores.
No: it's on Greenwich Mean Time all year round. Greenwich, like everywhere else in the UK, isn't between late March and late October.
So Iceland isn't in the same zone as the UK.
OK: it is right now. But it isn't.

It seems as I thought the source of the Danube is in Germany's Black Forest - whatever they mean by source - there are of course many sources of the waters in the main Danube but the official source is in Germany's Black Forest - and they said that when I was in the area - Donauschwau or some name like that is near the source.

It is nice when added information is given.
Then we all learn a little extra

Yes indeedy - one of my goals here - to be enlightened - just in this thread I learnt several interesting things from comments of others. Please do use the questions as prompts to elaborate things of interest!

A German old guy singing the Sirens Song of the Lorelei like I've heard Germans on K-d cruises join in when that song comes on the P A when the boat approaches the famous Leoreli cliff.

Not the song I had in mind Pal. There is one with Lorelei or something similar in the chorus. May not be the one Ann was thinking of, but I now have it stuck in my head and can't find out what it is!
