sfmasterG,

Yes, I see your point on having to be February at 5 am at the Eiffel Tower to have a solo walk around it. I wasn't really expecting it would be empty. I certainly expected a lot of people there in June...but not quite to the degree of the photo on the link traveller1959 showed. Yikes!

Oh well. I can't do anything about it now. Flights and hotel are already booked.

We are going to the July 3 match at Stade de France. Any suggestions for where we should stay and best means of getting to the stadium? Also, any news about current protests that may affect metro transportation? Thank you!

I will be watching, and I expect Tommy will be cheering for England in the absence of Jockland.

BTW, those of you planning to go to Bordeaux for the games should know that the tram conductors are threatening to strike, so all the young folks camped out in municipal campgrounds on the outskirts of the city and those having secured cheap lodging near the stadium could well be stranded. Not to mention those who use the wonderful Bordeaux tram system just to get around the city. PITA for sure!

Transport workers are threatening to strike just about everywhere in France, but there is no point in worrying about it.

It is such an important event that even if army trucks need to be used, people will have transportation to stadiums.

In my opinion, the vast majority of the strike threats are a bluff. Just as an example, there is supposed to be a Paris metro strike by one of the unions on June 2nd, but the current prediction for metro service on that day is: 100%.

I'm curious to know more about the fan zone by the Eiffel Tower. Does anyone know if it will be open every day, or just the game days? My apartment is only a few blocks from the Champs de Mars, and I will be in Paris for the last game, July 10. Hoping to avoid crowds. And ISIS threats! Yikes!

Was planning on seeing the Eiffel Tower July 7. I'm wondering if the Euro 2016 crowds will be there that day, or not, since there is no game that day.

Or would you skip the Eiffel Tower altogether? My kids have really been looking forward to going to the summit. Ugh.

Thanks again, Kerouac!

We have tickets for two matches and are looking forward to the chaos. Our apartment is a block from La Tour Eiffel so we'll have easy access to the fan zone. The crowds won't bother us as the only thing we like to do at the Eiffel Tower is to walk through the the park and people watch. Should be fun - if the rain stops.

brubenow, We are in the same position. We will be in Paris Jun 21-23 and the top request by our kids was to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower.

As the festivities in town begin in a couple weeks, I'd really appreciate it if people in the city could report on what it is like.

Thanks!
