escorted tour Croatia
We are considering a trip to Croatia in the fall and have been looking at the Atlas Travel Grand Balkan tour. Unfortunately, we are not able to plan this trip ourselves as we usually do and are looking for an escorted tour where the transportation and sightseeing are done for us. We have seen lots of reviews on the Atlas day trips but nothing on their longer escorted tours. I would appreciate any input or suggestions. Thanks

We toured Croatia with Odysseys Unlimited. It was excellent because we had a wonderful guide. We toured Spain and Portugal with them, and it was lousy because we had a lousy guide. So the lesson to me (one data point) is that any touring company is only as good as the guide you get.

I agree that the guide is crucial. However, Odyssey tends to stay in very nice, centrally located hotels. I am not sure how the hotels are with Atlas. Odyssey is too expensive for this particular trip for us and I would prefer one that starts in Zagreb and ends in Dubrovnik or vice-versa so that we can have more time on our own in these cities - especially Dubrovnik. Thanks for the help. I am still hoping that someone has had some experience with Atlas tours.

I went last summer on an escorted tour of Croatia with a bit of Slovenia, starting in Dubrovnik and ending in Zagreb. Some people on the tour started a bit earlier in Greece and also went to other countries. the tour was operated by Kompas.. they are located in Slovenia and Croatia, but most people booked through Gate 1, or other tour operators, as Kompas only sells wholesale in the USA. The tour stayed in good hotels. You can look at Kompas' website and see the hotels, and compare that to Atlas. I enjoyed my tour very much though it was short... we stayed in Dubrovnk, Split, Plitvice, Bled and Zagreb.
