I am taking my video camera to Poland. The manual states that I can use the AC power adaptor that comes with the camera, with an AC plug adaptor for the wall outlet. So why are the travel stores trying to sell me the transformer to take along too? Has anyone had any problems charging their batteries? I spent a lot of $$ on the camera and hate to break it. Please respond, I leave tomorrow and I have not been able to get the answer on this one. Sun

I have never taken a video camera anywhere but I have had electrical "things" that I couldn't make work even using a transformer and the plugs. Your question is an important one, because I burned up 1 hairdryer and 1 curling iron because the transformers/power plugs did something wrong. I strongly recommend you find an 800 number of customer service for the specific product you have and call them. In the perfect world, if your power adapter is a universal one (one that senses the voltage and adapts), you should only need the "plug" that changes the one on the adapter to go into the plugs where you are. If not, you need the power transformer - and the plug. But once again, I have been burned (pardon the pun) by both scenarios and recommend you contact your camera maker to ask them that question. I second the last poster. When I moved to Germany I brought converters and my American appliances. I toasted my mixer and food processor and our computer speakers. Some friends of mine blew the fuse in their apartment trying to use an electric wok. I have no idea what went wrong!

when i was in spain last month i bought a plug convertor at a local store for less than $1......used it on my camcorder (canon)battery charger without a problem. i thought i needed a power transformer but it worked fine throughout spain. my wife blew up her blow dryer (and the power in our hotel room)using the same method.

Sun, <BR> <BR>I recently was in France and took along my Sharp Viewcam video camera. All I needed was the plug adapter, not the converter. It worked perfectly fine. But did you know in some hotel rooms, the power goes off when you are not in the room? So when I thought I was out to dinner and my battery was charging in the room, this was not always so. You had to leave a room key in a special slot in order to have electricity to the room. Very strange. Look at the small print on your battery charger. If it says 110/240 I think you'll be fine with just the plug adapter, just as mine did. <BR>Hope this helps. <BR> <BR>Sandi <BR>

Thanks for the response. I have spoke with the experts with camera in hand. The plug adaptor with my camera should work. We will see.... <BR>And, I packed too much. Thought I had it down to the minimum. Sitting on the bag just about gets it closed. Sun
