Edward Lear Hotel
Can anyone give me current information on this hotel. It seems that it is no longer in "rants and raves" yet it is in Fodor's most current book on hotels in London. I did a search here on line and there is nothing very current. Sounded like a good location and convenient coming in from LHR. Any advise, suggestions, etd. I've also looked at the London Town hotel in Earls Court and the Lime Tree...Help!

Yes, I checked all of that, which is why I'm back here asking. Several of the Rants and Raves that I read last time I could access them here were less than complimentary and with the devalued dollar, I figured this might be the place to check out what is going on there, if anyone has stayed there recently, and then determine if I want to change my hotel plans. My husband and I are going to London for a week to celebrate our 20th Anniversary prior to meeting our daughter for her wedding in Edinburgh the following week and moldy, cramped and dirty didn't sound too appealing although the location was what drew us in initially. Any help would be appreciated.

A friends daughter worked here for a few months a few years back. Because of this connection she and I have stayed here. It is a very simple place, not moldy, cramped and dirty. That said, most of the rooms don't have a private bath, the furniture is a bit worn and unmatched. They have a great breakfast and the price is certainly cheap for London, and the location is very good. It is not a hotel that I would want to stay in for my 20 year aniversary, it's where I drop off my bag for one or two nights if I am going to be out and about and don't want to spend much. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your information. We, unfortunately, are on a budget, so we're looking for convenience at a good price, which this hotel appears to be. However, when a hotel appears to disapear out of Rants and Raves and the comments that I read prior to these posts were less than positive, I thought I'd throw it to the Fodorites and see what I came up with. We don't need anything fancy, just a clean place to put our feet up after a day of walking and exploring (and a good light for some reading).
Thanks!

Julie, you can do better, and still stay within your budget. Check out some of the places mentioned at http://victorianresearch.org/trip.html#stay Scroll down to "B&Bs near the British Library" and you'll see several nice places, like the Penn Club, St Margarets, and the B&Bs on Cartwright Gardens. Some friends of mine spent part of their honeymoon last spring at the Avalon, for example, got a great rate on a ground-floor double, and liked the place very much.

Thanks so much, will do some exploring today and see what I can come up with. We're both so exctited that we will acutally have a full week in London to explore, walk, look, savor and enjoy. The energy of this city is wondeful and as misplaced city dwellers, is a great thing to enjoy!
