Edinburgh hotels/self-catering accomodation
Hello, <BR>I'm looking for recommendations on hotels or self-catering flats in Edinburgh in the $100-$150 per night range (60-100 GBP). Any suggestions? We're pretty independent so are looking for a centrally located (no car), not-too fussy hotel or B&B. Thank you.

In December of 1998 my family stayed in the Kildonan Lodge Hotel in Edinburgh. It was absolutely, totally lovely and the proprietors were SO accomodating. They have a website, I think it's http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/hotels/kildonan.html or do a search by the hotel name. Have fun!

I've recommended this place before: The Dunedin Guest House on Priestfield Road. Absolutely charming and the hosts are locals and wonderful at providing information on anything and everything in Edinburgh. I found them through Rick Steves and have been back three times. They're now friends! All the rooms are large and en suite (private bathrooms) and the breakfast is cooked-to-order. They are under $100 night for two. The Web site is: [email protected]. <BR>Have a great trip--Scotland is SO wonderful!

I heartily recommend the Castle View Guest House. Wonderful B&B right off of Princes' Street right at Edinburgh Castle. From our room we could see the castle. The room we had was very spacious (we had a room for two adults and two children, very clean, and quiet. One warning, the B&B is on the 4th and 5th floor of a building with no elevator. The breakfast was great and the price is within your range. They have a website and you can see the room.

We stay at Bar Java in Leith on Constitution Street (java-bedandbreakfast.com)...good bus service, rooms above a pub for 40-50 pounds per night for a double with a special promotion on during the winter which makes it even more affordable. TV with remote in the room, daily service One block for the waterfront, wonderful staff, bathrooms down the hall but a good robe takes care of that...delicious full breakfast, a good pint, mostly locals except for the guests and a beer garden during good weather. All the great seafood restaurants of Edinburgh in the neighborhood, shops and pubs...we are going back in December and eventually plan to settle in Leith for a number of years. Write if you need further details. Best wishes, enjoy your visit!
