Edinburgh Hotel: Do you know it?

Hello all, Just had a devil of a time(Ben Haines, you were right!)trying to find a decent room in Edinburgh at Festival time. After much fruitless searching, I finally reserved a room at the Rothesay Hotel for 3 nights at 90pounds a night. I think that is pretty reasonable. Looks nice on their web site. Does anyone know it? Also, does anyone know a reasonable place to stay in Oban for 2 nights? Would like to stay on Arran for 2 nites at the Kilmichael Country House, anyone stayed there? I think this is all we will be able to do... thanks again, Judy

Judy -
I stayed at the Rothesay Hotel last year for 2 nights. I found the location to be quite convenient - walking distance to the Castle, Princes Street, etc. It certainly is not a luxury hotel, but was comfortable with good service. My room had old red carpeting with an old floral bedspread that really clashed. I also couldn't get the shower nozzle to work - but overall, not a bad place.
Martha
Hello Martha, I am glad it is adequate. I had a giggle over your description. My husband who is fashion impaired, would probably love it! Just as long as it is decent and clean....and comfortable....thanks again, Judy

I assume that's for 2 for one night?

Try the Pierhouse, Port Appin- it's about 20 miles north but is in a stunning location. Other than that, the 2 "good" central hotels are the Royal and the Caledonian, both of which should be in your price range. The problem with Oban is it's stuffed with Guest Houses, most of which are pretty lacklustre. Last time I stayed in a "proper" hotel I stayed in the Alexandra. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to right home about either. If you've got a car, stay out of town.
