My sister will be travelling to Edinburg this weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions on things to see. She will only be there for 1 1/2 days. She loves history, art, etc....

Edinburgh is wonderful. You dont say how old she is but here are some suggestions: castle, hollyrood castle, Jenners (like Harrods in London), hop on hop off bus, Royal Mile, Britannia, Scotch Tour by castle....there are so many great things to see and do there!

I was in Edinburgh in April and spent an enjoyable late afternoon at the National Gallery of Scotland, which is an excellent, relatively small collection in a beautiful neoclassical building. I was there on Thursday, which is late closing, and they were even serving free beer and wine. But it's worth visiting without the latter incentive.

One thing I didn't do on my first trip to Edinburgh which I did when I was just there in May was climb the Scott Monument. It was quite a hike, but it gave me a beautiful perspective of the city and we had a blue sky with a few white puffy clouds, it was just gorgeous.

And do not miss touring the Castle. That should be first on her list, IMHO.

If she loves history, she should not miss the Museum of Scotland. It's wonderful, and covers everything from Scottish prehistory up to modern times.
