EDI to downtown Edinburgh
Not having a car, what would be the best (maybe even least expensive) way to get from EDI to downtown Edinburgh (right up the street from the castle)? How long does the trip take? Thanks. Helene

There is a fast, frequent, cheap airport express bus from EDI into central Edinburgh.
"Just up the street from the castle" could mean a lot of different directions. What street is your hotel on? Anyway - the airport bus travels up Princes Street to Waverly station. If it doesn't stop near your hotel, you can take a local bus or short taxi ride for the final leg.

The airport is 11km from the city centre and the best way to get there is take the dedicated airport bus into Princes Street or Waverley Bridge. The single fare is £3 and the return fare £5. The buses run every 10 - 15 minutes and it takes about 20 - 25 minutes for the journey. Have a look at the website www.flybybus.com

I think janisj is getting slightly muddled but the airport bus does not stop in Lothian Road, it stops in Shandwick Place about 100 yards from its junction with Lothian Road. Cambridge Street runs between Lothian Road and Castle Terrace and is about 200 yards from the Shandwick Pl / Lothian Road junction.
