Eating in Reykjavik

I'm also looking for food recommendations in Reykjavik. I don't have a huge budget, but I would like to spoil myself for a few meals.

Any suggestions?

I have enjoyed the restaurant Pearl(Perlan) on top of the water plant very much; a bit pricy, but the food was good, and the views were very impressive.

In downtown, Vio Tjornina(Templarasund 3) offers good seafood.

I also vote for Vid Tjornina. It's very warm and charming, with old fashioned decor. They seated us at a love seat in the bar to have a drink and make our selections from the menu before leading us to our table.

Service was wonderful. Food was amazing. Favorite dish: Cod cheeks- delicate little morsels of fish- highly recommend them! Nice wine list, too.

I read an article after we got home about the lamb hotdogs they serve at stands around the city late into the night for the disco-goers. Apparently they are a taste sensation. I wish we had known about them then!

Have a great trip. Iceland is a beautiful and friendly place to visit.

Tveir Fiskar, down by the harbor, is an excellent fish restaurant. Perlan was worth the splurge. Everyone raves about Apotek, but it seemed too Asian Fusion and not Icelandic enough. I heard good things about Cafe Opera and Laekjarbrekka. The great hot dog place starts with a "B" and is one block closer to the harbor from Hornid.

I just returned from Iceland a couple of days ago. The food in Iceland was the one big surprise. It is very good. My restaurant recommendation is Vegemot, right in the downtown area. We ate there twice. It's more reasonable than a lot of the others and it has a very nice atmosphere.
